A/N: This fic is the result of me trying to write something way, way outside my plot and aesthetic comfort zone, and needless to say, it did indeed end up a very long way out of my comfort zone. Still, I figured since I wrote it, I'll post it. There will be three chapters, and this book is rated mature due to an explicit scene in this chapter.

"If it isn't my two favourite Miller sisters!" Shayne's voice cuts through the pounding bass around them and their tense conversation, Courtney almost jumping in surprise.

"Shayne! It's been so long!" Kari greets him loudly, grin wide, as he stands almost opposite her, beside Courtney.

"Everything good? You guys looked kinda worried," he asks, tilting the near-empty bottle in his hand to an angle as he does the same with his head.

"Just trying to work shit out," Courtney grumbles, "because Kari wants to drag some guy she just met home but-"

"But I can't leave my baby sister to get home alone when she's thisssss drunk," Kari interjects, hand gesturing vaguely at Courtney as she speaks.

"Not your baby sister, bitch!" Courtney shoots back, before her tone mellows, "but I don't wanna have to get home alone because dudes are fucking creeps."

"I mean, no offence taken if it doesn't help and I'm also a little drunk but I can make sure you get home safely. And I wanna hang out now I found you anyway," Shayne offers, glancing at Courtney.

"Mmm yeah I know I'm safe with my Shayney boy," Courtney nods, leaning against his side. He places a hand on her shoulder as if to steady her.

"Yeah, trust you to get this drunk bitch home safe- sure," Kari nods, "and then I can go get this di-"

"Shut up and go with your guy," Courtney cuts her off, eyes rolling. Kari does just that, though, waving them goodbye before she saunters off towards the exit, a brunette man trailing behind her like a lost puppy dog.

"What brings you two to this particular private club party?" Shayne asks, turning to Courtney.

"I dunno, man, Kari knows someone, I just came along for the night out- didn't expect to run into you, though, thought you were too boring for this shit?" She turns the question back on him, watching Shayne fake-scowl for a moment before breaking into laughter.

"I know the dude that's hosting through Disney shit. Had to make an appearance," he explains, before glancing back to meet her eyes, "what were you up to? I was just about to go get another drink, but whatever you wanna-"

"Another drink sounds good," Courtney agrees, "and don't you get on my case about being too drunk, I can do whatever-"

"I'm not going to get on your case, as long as you're safe," he cuts her off, hand moving to press lightly against the small of her back as he leads her through the crowd to the bar, trying to avoid anyone pushing between them and separating them, "can I buy you that drink?"

"Go for it, dude," she answers, laughing lightly as they reach the bar and he grabs a bartender's attention. He orders another beer, and she orders a cocktail. He taps his card against the pay machine for both, and she sees him join her in watching the bartender make her drink like a hawk. It makes her feel warm and fuzzy, and she settles into the feeling as she falls into relaxed banter with him as they drink their drinks.

They end up being their last, Courtney reluctantly admitting after she sets her empty glass down on a random side table that she should probably go home.

"Don't let me mess with your night though, baybeeee," she tells him, grinning at the joking nickname, but he loosely shakes his head.

"Nah, I'm good to leave too. You cool if I Uber or whatever home with you, make sure you get there okay?" He asks, Courtney nodding messily in response.
