After having seen Doug Rickenberger violently elbow one of his colleagues in the face before throwing said teacher over his shoulder (which caused Hawk to be surprised when he saw it), the Science teacher Mr. Palmer said to forget it, because they didn't pay him enough, and his facial expressions and tone showed it.
So, Melissa mentally shrugged and said, "Well, it looks like it's time I take matters... into my own hands" right before thumping her right fist into the palm of her left hand.
Mr. Palmer's initial body language of "Not in this lifetime" soon changed to one of surprise when he turned and looked at Melissa, as did his colleague and Doug, right before they exchanged a puzzled expression as though thinking the same thing: What? What the heck does she mean by taking matters into her own hands? What's all that about?
Fortunately for Melissa, that was when she looked up, and locked eyes with none other than... Hawk.
