cold was all melodie felt when she landed in the water, but as she swam up to the surface all she could do was smile. she felt incredible.
sure, she was freezing and her clothes were heavy, but the adrenaline rush was worth it. as she swam towards the dock she could hear everyone cheering for her. as she got out she took a bow and laughed. she felt alive, she felt like she did when she preformed. she felt the way she did before she was attacked.
as she was starting to walk away she saw tank rip the towel off of ray hall's head. when he got to her he said:
"what the hell was that? are you trying to kill yourself?"
as he was wrapping the towel around melodie she let out a small, "maybe."
he shook his head with a scoff as he lead her back to where he was sitting.
"you're stupid and you're going to catch a cold," he scolded her as he pushed her to sit next to ray.
"i think that was the best thing i've ever done," she let out with a laugh.
ray knocked his shoulder with her's, "thought you weren't going to play, shortcake."
"i changed my mind," she said, ignoring the fact that his eyes lingered on the side of her face that her dad hit.
"who the hell is that?" tank asked directing melodie's attention back up to the cliffs.
"heather nill," the girl next to her stated.
she heard tyler say, "all you have to do is throw in some food stamps to get that girl movin',"
"shut your mouth," melodie glared at him as ray let out a small "ooh" with his eyebrows shooting up.
she watched heather hesitate, her flare going out. she listened as her "friend" natalie yelled for her to get down. just as she thought heather would give up though, she saw her light up.
she watched her start another flare and going higher and higher up the cliffs, not stopping until the devil's drop.
"get her down from there!" melodie heard someone yell.
melodie rolled her eyes. these people really had no confidence in them whatsoever.
"state your name contestant 23," diggens let out in a worried voice.
heather stood there for a second before yelling out, "heather. heather nills!"
she watched as heather ran off the high cliff and when she landed, melodie stoop up and cheered for her.
melodie was proud of heather and hoped that if she didn't win, heather would.
as she turned around to face tank she caught ray staring at her in awe. she smiled softly at him before completely turning her attention to tank.
