Alexander's POV
I looked at her completely shocked. I never heard of Raven having a mate. I was so happy when the moon goddess gifted me with a second-chance mate, especially one as beautiful and kind as Raven. She might try to convince everyone and herself that she's cold but she's not. She's just a woman who has been hurt. Now I don't know what to think, she hates my kind because they killed her mate. I looked over at her to see her sobbing mess on the floor. I lifted her up and carried her to her bed. I laid down next to her and wrapped my arms around her. I figured that was enough talking for tonight, we were both exhausted. She was asleep within minutes.
I thought about how she looked when she came storming into the throne room with Amelia in her arms. She had on a tank top and shorts with her silk robe wrapped around her and she was barefoot. I was ready to jump off my throne and shield her from all the male eyes from looking at her, especially her legs. Her long, dark hair was hanging around her face, every photo I've seen of her over the years she always had her hair pulled back in some sort of hairstyle but she looks like a true queen with it down. I remember seeing the look of pure, controlled rage on her face, her violet eyes showed how angry she was at being woken up and for waking Amelia up. She might not be a luna or a wolf but she is protective like one. She held Amelia like she was her own daughter. I loved seeing Raven carrying my daughter and humming that lullaby.
My true mate, Vivian, always talked about her friend Raven. I always knew who Raven was to Vivian and how close they were, since Vivian always talked about her. Now that I think about it, I think that Vivian visited Raven when her mate died, but I didn't know that it was her mate, Vivian would just say that it was a friend of Raven's. I remember Vivian saying when we first met that there is only one person in the world that she trusted to care for her mate and children was Raven. It seems that even in death, my Vivian is caring for me. I was feeling my soul darken every day without my mate, that was until Raven walked into my throne room with her daughter at her legs, how angry she got at the servants saying things about her daughter. I remember how the wolf who guards the gate mind-linked me about the violet eyed witch. I knew he was talking about Raven and I could tell he was scared and intimidated. Raven could make the nastiest rogue run with his tail between his legs just by looking at him with those cold violet eyes.
The way she messed up that vampire. I could tell they knew each other, but I was surprised by how fast she was able to take him down. I couldn't help but feel jealous when she touched him, I couldn't stop the growl from escaping me. Now I feel better having her in my arms. I choose to believe Vivian convinced the moon goddess to make her best friend as my second-chance mate. She's making sure that her best friend is the one to care for her mate and daughter.
Raven mumbled something in her sleep, I could barely hear it even with my wolf hearing. I looked down at her. I remember meeting her as a kid. She was beautiful even back then, but she was a lot more fun. She smiled and laughed more and liked to play pranks and joked around, then she stopped coming around and got busy with preparing to be queen. I could never forget about her, she was always on the cover of magazines. I pretty much saw her grow up. But then I met Vivian, I figured I would forget about Raven then but then she told me when we were laying in my room watching tv, we saw Raven on tv talking on a talk show, Vivian told me that was her best friend. This was before her mate died so she was a lot happier. She smiled and laughed but not as much as she used to. I remember seeing Raven on a talk show after her mate died, she seemed so upset and angry she barely even smiled. Vivian said that Raven wasn't the same after her 'friend's' death. I can see why now.
Her mate must have been a werewolf. Only werewolves have mates. Vampires have soulmates but it's not the same and witches they do it similar to humans, they meet someone they love but instead of getting married they perform some ceremony, I read somewhere that they cut their palms opened and put their hands together and chant a spell that bonds their lives together, they share one soul. If one dies, so does the other. Werewolves can survive if their mate dies even after they mark and mate each other but sometimes the males get too lethal and go crazy and they must die, the females they get too depressed or they get ill, it's rare if they go crazy, they only go crazy if they have a mental illness or are weak. That's only with the older couples. My mate died a month after we had Amelia and my daughter was able to keep me calm and now I have Raven. The moon goddess must have something prepared for us.
