"How are your feet?"

"They're okay... but I'm glad we managed to hail a cab."

"Yeah, me too."

The cab came to a halt. Edwina tapped her credit card to pay for the fare.  She thanked the driver and stepped out of the cab then turned around and peered back inside the cab. Brad looked up towards her.

"Well, this is where I'm staying.. do you mind stepping out of the cab for a bit? I'm sure the concierge can call you another cab?"

"Um, yeah, sure, of course."

Brad quickly thanked the driver and used the opposite door to get out of the cab.  They closed their doors and they both stood in front of the hotel building and watched the taxi leave.  Edwina turned to Brad.

"..Um.. Brad, thank you for accompanying me back to my hotel. I had a lovely time today, it was really nice to get to know you and your brother."

"Likewise Edwina, I'm so glad you and your mum dropped in to have a coffee. I had a really nice time with you."

Edwina smiled.

Brad smiled back.

"Brad..."

"Yeah?"

"Would you like to... come up for a bit?"

Brad tried to answer casually without much success.

"I.. um... yeah, sure."

Edwina smiled.

"Just go straight to the lifts and wait for me there as if you own the place. I'll just go get my key from reception.

"Sure."

OMG.

They walked into the hotel lobby and immediately parted as Brad quickly worked out that the lifts were on the opposite side of the reception desk. Brad wore his deadpan expression, the one he used with Brett often when they wanted to make it particularly difficult for people around them to tell them apart. It was also his go-to expression whenever he had to look like he was in control and not in a panicky mood, even when he was absolutely sh*tting himself like in this instance.

He tried to walk casually with slow long strides to the lifts as he glanced at Edwina who calmly walked up to the reception desk smiling and asked for her room key. Brad waited as Edwina thanked the concierge and made her way towards him.  In the meantime a middle aged woman had also approached the lifts.  She used her keycard to call the lift carriage.  Edwina came to stand next to Brad and she smiled.  Brad tried to smile back but struggled somewhat as his deadpan expression had been locked in.  He may have looked like he was grimacing.  He desperately hoped he didn't.

The lift arrived. The middle aged woman went inside first, Edwina followed as Brad subtly shoved his hand over the door sensors to ensure it stayed open for her then he followed her.  The lift panel must have already been scanned by the middle aged woman as one of the floor buttons had already been lit up.  Edwina scanned her keycard on the security panel and pressed a button at a higher level. They then stood side by side, both facing the lift door.

The lift made its first stop.  Edwina smiled at the woman and said;

"Good night."

The woman smiled back and said;

"Thank you, have a lovely night."

As the lift doors closed, Edwina gave a glance to Brad.  She stuck a bit of her tongue out as she gave a shy yet coquettish grin. She then whispered.

"I hope so."

OMG!

Brad was certain his signature dead-pan expression was gone.  He just hoped he didn't look like a giddy lunatic that he felt like he was.

Once the lift door closed and they started to ascend again, Brad realised something.

"Oh, um, Edwina.. Mrs Chen.. you're mum... isn't she already resting in your room?"

Edwina kept her gaze forward as she replied quietly.

"Yes, she probably is already resting. But we have separate rooms."

OMG!!

Brett tried very hard not to stammer.

"Oh. Um. Yes. Of course. Great."

Brad could no longer barely string two words together.

The lift came to a halt and the doors slid open.

Brad followed Edwina down the corridor. In front of her hotel room door, Edwina tapped her keycard which gave a little beep and the little green light above the door handle lit up to indicate that the door was ready to open. She pulled down the door handle then turned around to face Brad.

"..and don't worry, our rooms are not adjacent."

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!

Brad stepped in close to Edwina as he reached his hand and placed it on top of Edwina's which was resting on the door handle. He gently squeezed her hand as he raised his gaze and looked into Edwina's eyes. Together they pushed the door open as they entered the room. They were tangled up into each other's arms way before the door managed to slowly close shut.
