Part 2 of 7

Let's switch it up

The bus ride was surprisingly calm. The chatter if a few kids and their friends filed off but nothing rambunctious.

Journey sat on her own for most of the ride until the second to last stop when a girl named, Cherrie got on.

Her skin was red, and her hair was green. She was literally a mutated chery plant and just like Journey she didn't like speaking to people, unless she absolutely had too.

Her eyes scanned the seats trying to find one empty but she couldn't the only space left was the spot next to Journey.

Slowly she made her way down the isle getting a "Hurry up!" From the bus driver.

She plopped down next to Journey as rigid as ever and Journey tensed feeling their arms brush together.

The rest of the ride was awkward to say the least.

Awkward. Tense. Anxiety inducing. Nerve racking...I think you get the point.

It wasnt comfortable for Journey or Cherrie and frankly, the rest of the day wouldn't be.

The moment the teacher introduced Cherrie to Journeys class and had Journey assigned to help her for the rest of the day or week if needed.

They both knew they were in for a tumble of awkwardness and stutters.

"......So y-y-....You're Journey?" Journey glanced at Cherrie and then away nodding. "Yea.." she whispered.

"What?" Cherrie hadn't heard what she said due to her very bad hearing and also the whispering. "I-i said yea," Jounrey for a bit louder but still not loud enough.

Cherrie left it alone seeing she was just like her, terrible at the whole talking to strangers thing. They sat together at the round lunch table eating in silence despite the loudness that filled the cafeteria.

Journey pulled out her sketch book and began to continue what she had been sketching on the bus. It was a new Jacket for her mom, something sleek and baggy but fitted looking.

"WOAH! That looks so freaking good," for the first time since they had met Cherrie spoke out kid and clear as she peaked at the book. Journey flinched a bit and blushed "...You think so?"

Cherrie nodded, "totally dude! It's giving me-..50's biker vibes!" Journey giggled at that, "that's kind of what I'm going for."

"My mom is has a huge biker aesthetic. Leather, tight clothes, all the jazz but you know real good Leather can be expensive. Especially when it's already made into whatever. So we just buy the leather and I make the clothes, if I'm up for it!"

Cherrie smiled and scooted closer. "Well it looks freakin' AMAZING! What else you got in there?" Journey smiled back and her eyes lit with excitement to share her passion.

Together sat and flipped through the sketch book the whole lunch period and also through Journey's phone showing off a few she'd already finished.

The day started off awkward and shy but ended on a good somewhat bonding note.

The two girls couldn't wait to exchange phone numbers and meet outside of school.

Journey had made her first new Friend aside from Kaliopy and she couldn't be more happy about it.
