Letters from Grandma

You were stretching, the morning was crisp and quiet. A low moan came from under you. Sasha Braus' stomach was growling. It was a kind of alarm clock for you.
Stomach groan, morning. Get up.
.You slid down the beds and made your way to the commune bathroom you shared with a few different girls. Sasha Braus, Annie Leonheart, Ymir, Christa, a girl you hardly know, and Mikasa Ackermann. She always looked at you with cold, dead eyes.
You didn't like Mikasa Ackermann.
The bathroom was cold and the tiles froze your feet. You stared into the mirror, blinking slowly.
Today was just another day.
As you exited the bathroom quietly, you could hear Annie talking:
"It's time to get up, Sasha. Come on, move." She said, her monotoned voice saying quietly. Sasha groaned, rolling over and farting.
You giggled.
Mikasa glared at you. You ignored it and went over to Sasha's bed, shaking her shoulders.
"Get up!" You yelled, laughing a little. You heard the door open and slam shut.
Mikasa was really a bitch.
~breakfast time~
"Good morning, (Y/N)." Said a familiar voice. Jean Kirshtein. As gorgeous as he was, admittedly, he was a bit of an ass. You looked over in his direction. His eyes smiled back at you. You waved and said back:
"Good morning, Jean."
Eren Jaeger and Armin Arlert also said good morning, Armin yawning and combing his fingers through his hair.
"Tired?" You asked as he yawned again.
"Yeah, I was up doing errands for Corporal Levi all afternoon yesterday..." Armin said. Eren laughed as Armin walked away.
"You know, he actually means Jean, not Levi." Eren whispered in your ear. You frowned.
"Why would Armin lie?" You asked as Eren merely winked at you and wandered over to a table to sit at. Your brow furrowed, you followed.
You sat between Armin and Jean, Sasha, Connie and Eren opposite you. For some reason, Annie and Mikasa had chosen a seat quite far away from you and your friends.
"What's up their asses?" Connie said, turning around to look at them.
"I don't know..." Sasha said, shoving yet another piece of bread down her throat.
"Hey Sasha..." Connie said as Sasha chewed. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Sasha choked.
It took three people to resuscitate her. Connie was extremely embarrassed, until a revived Sasha leapt onto him and hugged him tightly.
"Yes!" She cried, kissing him. His eyes widened, but soon he melted into the kiss, their lips meeting for the first time.
Jean gagged.
"Eugh, how disgusting." Jean commented as Sasha and Connie walked away to a seperate table, hand in hand. You nodded in agreement, but not really meaning it.
You wish you had that somebody.
Eren was laughing, and Armin was nudging Eren to keep him quiet, by the look of it.
"Why are you laughing, Eren?" You asked. Before he could answer, a recruit you didn't know was trying to get everybody's attention.
"Guys! I have letters from your friends and families! When I call your name, come up and get them."
Everybody shut up as you listened for your name.
"Connie Springer!"
Connie got up and got his mail. This went on for quite a while, almost everybody retrieving at least one letter. Sadly, neither Eren or Armin got one. Mikasa got one, though.
"(Y/N)!" The recruit called. You got up and took your letter. Sitting back down, you went to open it, as everybody else was. Jean's name was called, and he went back to his chair, too. Jean opened his letter, and you sneaked a peek of it, seeing as he sat next to you. The words were heavy cursive, and you couldn't make them out. You groaned and opened your letter. Weird, it didn't have anything inside. Wait, there was something. You pulled out a tiny piece of paper. It said:
-Dear (Y/N),
Please meet me on the wall above the gate at sunset tonight. I need to talk to you.-
You were suprised, and noticed the writing looked suspiciously like Armin's elegant script. Maybe he likes you? You didn't know. I guess you'll just have to wait for now.
Jean sniffed. You didn't notice before, but his letter was now soaked. You looked up into his eyes.
He was crying.
You jumped and quickly grabbed his hand, wiping away his tears.
"What's wrong?" You whispered, your eyes widening. His face scrunched up, he recoiled into his palms. You let of and held him in your arms. He was shivering. You looked at the letter on the table. Words stood out to you.
'Mother'
'Illness'
'Please'
'Died'
You felt tears in your eyes. Did his mother die?
