The weather was very suitable for the hunting event held by the Nobles at the end of every summer, that dictated the beginning of autumn, the morning sun stood in the cloudless sky and the green leaves on the trees became rare as their colours transformed into amber, brown or red.
I and the other Queens in training had been standing at the front row of the audience, and the Royal trumpets blew indicating the arrival of the contestants.
My wishful heart pounding at the upcoming moment I had rehearsed so desperately for the moment in which I, Ariana Luxunton give my token of luck to the Crown Prince and properly with it profess my love.
I mean all the Queens must give their tokens to the Prince as it is tradition, but mine is different, instead of giving him that same old boring embroidery of the Royal seal.
I will be giving him my family crescent a clear embodiment of my feelings for him.
The contestants all rode in holding flags of their houses, the crowd roared at their appearance cheering for their area's representatives.
As I reached the fields with the rest of the queens I noticed they all had gone up to Prince Aiden gracefully in a line that I followed in, but upon noticing my friend Luke Halpin I broken off from them and had taken out a separate token that I had created for him.
"Luke, this is for you," I said as I took out his embroidered handkerchief. Reaching out his hand he took it and with an impressed expression he told me.
"Wow! Your family crescent? Do you wish for me to misunderstand?," he teased as he placed his hand on his chin, his remark immediately made me flustered "H-Hey, that one is just a practice piece, instead of wasting it I thought you'd like it!"
"Aw, how thoughtful, I'll come in first place just for you then," he playfully smiled.
Then in a serious tone, I replied "No Way! I'm fully rooting for Prince Aiden," swerving my head in the other direction with my arms crossed "But...I do hope you can at least place second,"
Placing his hand on my head he smirked, "I'll make sure to come in first for my beautiful wife,"
"Shut up Luke!" I glared back at him trying to prevent my smile.
"Uhm," the sound of the prince clearing his throat made the both of us turn silent, "Lady Ariana, give me the handkerchief so we can start the event already,"
I looked around to see that most of the other Noblewomen had also come out to give their tokens to their men, and it seemed as though the Prince was far more irritated than usual even if he did look fine before.
"Look at that I guess, it's time for me to go take my spot," Luke awkwardly said as he got back on his horse and left.
"Quickly!" the prince demanded as he placed his hand out.
"Oh y-yea," taking it out and placing it on his palm I hoped for him to notice the image on it. But without even looking at it once he just stuck it in his pocket.
"Your Highness? Aren't you going to look at it?" I asked as my heart began to sting.
He looked at me then over to Luke, however, I didn't notice. "It has my family crescent..."
"Okay? So you want me to congratulate you on not following the rules?" he bitterly stated.
'W-what? This isn't meant to happen!?' I thought as I panicked, "It's supposed to convey my feelings for you...that I love you,"
"Ugh, just go back into the audience Lady Ariana I don't have time to deal with you right now,"
My head bent down to the ground as my heart was shattered I commenced in strolling back to my seat, but upon looking back I saw him pull out my handkerchief and gaze at it momentarily, and so a glimmer of hope shot through me once more. "Never give up Aria! And we shall never lose in love!" I encouraged myself as I watched him get onto his horse.
However in the distance behind him, I noticed something strange, and it seemed as though it was pointed at the Prince.
Without even thinking my body pushed itself in his direction sprinting up to him, then jumping onto his horse.
"Lady Ariana!?" He yelled in bewilderment as I wrapped my arms around him shielding him from the incoming arrow, the whole crowd gasping.
A sharp piercing pain scattered throughout my body starting from a point within my back.
It seemed as though I was poisoned using magic. 'Am I really going to die?'
I could hear the panic of the crowd and the loud yells from Aiden but they all became muffled as my pain intensified.
Everything went black.
~~~
My heavy eyes opened as I regained my consciousness.
"Ariana! My darling Aria!" My father screamed in concern as he noticed my subtle movements.
"Father?" I tediously muttered, regaining my energy with each passing moment.
He quickly grabbed my hand, and Luke had ran out to go get the Doctor. Harper was also there by my bed her eyes widened in delight by my waking.
"Where is the Prince?" I asked.
Harper was immediately filled with rage at his mention "Are you stupid!? You nearly died, and the first thing you ask for is him! He hasn't visited you at all for the 2 weeks you've been in this coma!" she exclaimed.
"Harper calm down, she just woke up," my father told her.
However, I couldn't hear them. I saw my past life whilst I was in that coma...I'm in a novel called 'The Princess Must Marry For Peace'
And my character is just a scapegoat, and an insignificant villainess that dies because of her love. The Prince will soon be engaged to the Princess of Gastola.
To the man, I've selflessly loved my entire life.
"No way!" I asserted as I jolted out of bed. "He hasn't visited me once!"
I must make myself the female lead.
And what does every female lead in an isekai do? They ignore the male lead and tell him they don't love them, it works all the time. Right?
Speeding out of the room my father caught my arm "Ariana? Where you going?!"
"Somewhere I must go to!"
~~~
Running into his office in my sleeping attire my hair out of place and my appearance quite rough."Prince Aiden," I yelled.
He instantly turned his head to the door where I was standing. He was sat at his desk doing work. "Lady Ariana?" he inquired.
"Yes, and thank you for not visiting me whilst I was on the verge of death in your stead," I smiled.
"Is that why you came here?" He coldly stated not moving from his seat.
"No, actually it's because I wanted to tell you I no longer love you, and wish to drop out from being a queen in training,"
'I did the right thing right!?'
