Kat Geller was a slightly awkward and skittish Hufflepuff that had planned her entire life out by the time she was eleven. It was like everything fell into place from the moment she stepped aboard the Hogwarts Express for the first time — after all, that was when she first met Alexander Carstairs after some older boys played a nasty prank that left her on the verge of tears. And Alexander was undoubtedly it for her. He was thoughtful and sweet and all the kind of things a romantic like her should have wanted. Yet, when Alexander goes off plan and proposes over Christmas Break due to his rising war fears, Kat is left wondering whether or not it was a mistake to have spent her entire life playing by the rules.
Regulus Black had played by the rules his entire life too. He was the prodigal son that always did what he was told without question — even if it meant being forced to passively take the Dark Mark over Christmas. But, Regulus wonders if the praise and glory that comes with being the heir to the House of Black is worth it when an increased pressure to prove his loyalty to the Dark Lord leaves him drowning. Between trying to pass his classes and keep his family's ragged reputation afloat, his only reprieve ends up being the school kitchens. Over impromptu conversations about hot chocolate and house elves, Regulus Black finds a breath of fresh in air in Katherine Geller.
A muggleborn Hufflepuff and a pureblood Slytherin, both full of doubts about the current direction of their lives, are soon left caught up in a torrid emotional affair that surely could never last. Then again, that's the fun of it — everything must die at some point though, right?
