I Don't Need Luck, I Have You

One wants to have a shower and go back to studying and then this happens...

I did it as fast as I could, so maybe I'll return to correct it later (or maybe not 😅).

It was settled. They would work on the Perseus as fast as they could and then sail to unpetrify their friends and search for the missing materials for the rocket. However, that also meant that their group would have to part ways.

That was how Senku found himself working on some blueprints while discussing with the rest of the generals how they were going to distribute.

"Well, let's start with the obvious, shall we? Senku-chan, Chrome-chan and Kaseki-chan will be working on the Perseus and then sail away."

"Of course, if something bad happens to the Perseus we need to be ready." Chrome said while everyone else nodded.

"Furthermore, Ryusui-chan will be in charge of sailing and Ukyo-chan will be operating the sonar. I think Chelsea-chan should also join the crew."

"True, her knowledge will come in handy once we go exploring for the materials." Senku said, easily understanding his motives.

"Right. Now that's settled, we need to talk about the power team. Taiju-chan will surely want to go with Senku-chan-"

"Please, you can say it," Senku interrupted with a snicker, eyes still focused on his blueprint. "Everyone knows that he wants to get reunited with Yuzuriha ASAP."

"Do you think he will finally confess?" Ryusui asks with enthusiasm.

"Not a chance."

"What?!" Both Ryusui and Gen exclaim.

"That big oaf got a hard head, both literally and metaphorically. He won't confess until we have restore all civilization."

"I guess that's true..." Gen sighs, even after he nearly... No, he most certainly did, but he didn't want to think about that so instead he cleared his throat. "Well, as I was saying, Taiju-chan will go with you, and I'm sure Kohaku-chan will do that as well and she will certainly want to take Suika-chan with her, which I think it's for the best, really." And that was another thing he didn't want to think about, how much Suika had changed and how her return to the Ishigami Village will be like. "So I suggest that Tsukasa-chan and Hyoga-chan stay in case Xeno-chan tries something unny-fay."

"Sounds about right." Ukyo nods.

"Finally, considering that Xeno-chan will be working with dangerous chemicals it would be better to have someone with medical knowledge at our side. Now, I doubt Luna-chan will be willing to join us instead of you, but maybe Francois-"

"Wait, what did you say?" Senku once again interrupts, but this time he's not scribbling anymore. "You're staying?"

"Someone has to watch over Xeno-chan while Tsukasa-chan and Hyoga-chan are busy. I may not be a scientist, but I'm probably the only one besides you who is able to see past his tricks."

Ryusui and Ukyo exchanged glances as Senku processed that new information. Even Chrome felt a little uncomfortable with the sudden tension that entered the small room.

It made sense. Xeno may have said that he would work with them, but he would have the rest of his people with him (except for Stanley, for obvious reasons). What assured them that as soon as they left he wouldn't attempt to make a takeover?

"Yes, you're right." Senku finally said.

Gen kept his face neutral, but Ukyo could tell he was upset. Of course, he would. It was no secret to anyone how he felt towards the scientist. At least, to anyone but those two.

However, the weird thing was that Senku, despite his first reaction, seemed calmer now, almost... amused.

Gen would have probably notice it as well if he wasn't so busy internally sulking.

"I thought as much, now back to the medical-"

"However." Senku interrupted, once again. The smirk on his face growing more evident. "Once we go exploring we don't know what we will find. Sure, Chelsea can help us with the geography, but people... that's your area of expertise. What if we encounter another scientist with dictator complex?"

"You'll figure it out, and it's not as if I helped much with the last one anyways."

Oh, now Senku seemed upset. Chrome definitely wanted to leave now, but Ukyo and Ryusui were watching everything play out as if it was some sort of entertainment.

"What are you talking about?"

Gen, of course, was very much aware that they had a public.

"Can we go back to the medical assistance topic and talk about this later?" Or never.

"How can I do that after hearing you say that?"

Ukyo sighed and Gen looked at him hopefully. Maybe he could persuade Senku to drop the topic and go back to the important discussion.

"I think that's our cue. Come on, guys. Let's see if Francois needs help with the food." Ukyo said instead, much to his disappointment.

"Great idea!" Chrome eagerly agreed while Ryusui complied with a pout, probably because he wanted to see how it would all go down.

Gen glared as his supposed to be 'best friend' as he waved with an innocent smile on his face.

"So," Senku said, blueprints all but forgotten as he crossed his arms and stared at him, "what was that you were saying?"

"About the medical aid?" Gen tried, but Senku remained unamused. He sighed in defeat. "You heard me, I didn't do much... or anything at all, besides being captured and almost getting Taiju-chan... you know," Yup, the irony didn't escape him, and something must have shown on his face because Senku's glare turned into a worried look. Just what he needed.

"He didn't."

"Not that time."

"Nor this time either." Senku said, standing up and walking towards him. "I know what you were thinking when you did that, even the big oaf could understand it as well."

"That doesn't make it okay and it was all for nothing."

"It bought us time," Senku argued, "and that's something we're quite short of at the moment." He added with a little smile. "We need to have our mentalist around."

I need to have you around.

Fortunately, Gen didn't need to hear it to understand it. Instead, he briefly returned his smile before letting out a long and dramatic sigh.

"Fine... I guess you leave no choice."

"Yup." Senku smirks. "So you better be ready for what's to come."

"I'll do my best," Gen says before leaning a little bit closer, "but know that you'll have to prepare tons of cola as a payment for all the stress you put me under."

"I think that can be arranged." Senku replies just as easily, maybe even leaning a bit closer himself.

For now, they could at least have that.

Taiju and Yuzuriha weren't the only ones waiting.
