— JJ's POV
This week, the team was in Miami for a homicide case. We just arrived today and we're getting acquainted with the lead detective on the case, Detective Lopez. Emily scrunched her brows and pointed as she saw someone approaching us, "Hey, isn't that—" I swallowed hard when I saw who it was.

Lopez chimed in, "Detective Y/L/N just arrived from New Orleans to ID the cop they pulled from the bay last night."

I acted seemingly normal and shook her hand, "Detective, it's good to see you."

She smiled and shook my hand, "Yeah, how are you? Charlie Luvet and I worked together for 7 years. We haven't formally IDed him yet, but... we believe it's him."

Derek nodded, "Sorry for your loss, hun."

Detective Lopez spoke up again, "So... you all know each other?"

I quickly replied, "Professionally," and nervously looked around at the group. None of them new about the relationship I started with Y/N about a year ago. I wanted to keep it that way.

Y/N squinted at me for a second and then said to Lopez, "Yeah. The BAU helped me out on a case about a year ago. Just for the sake of clarity, I'm not here to investigate. Charlie was supposed to be married this August, so if the guy that floated up last night was him, I guess I have the honor of notifying his fiancee... She's gonna need some answers, closure, and I'm just here to get that for her."

Rossi asked her, "Do you know why he was here?"

She responded, "He was meeting up with some college buddies to compete in a regatta. He was a big boat guy. So, he wasn't traveling alone. Well, he came alone. He was meeting them here."

Rossi continued, "We should track these friends down, see if they saw anything." He turned to Lopez, "And the 2 other victims, any potential witnesses?"

She shook her head, "No. Paul Hayes was here alone on business. Daniel Brown came down to windsurf by himself. So, they were all essentially alone."

Emily concluded, "The unsub watched them long enough to know that."

Lopez agreed, "Yeah. He's probably already scoping out his next victim, and I don't have a damn thing to warn people with... So come on inside. I've got everything all set up." She led us into the station, with Y/N and I trailing at the end of the group.

Y/N stopped me at the bottom of the stairs, "Hey, wait up. What was that?"

"What was what?"

"'Professionally?' You still haven't told anyone about us?"

"It's none of their business."

"Where do you tell them you go every weekend?"

"I don't."

She sighed, "Are you ashamed or something?"

"What? No. No. It's just in this team... everyone knows everything about everyone. There's no privacy. My personal life is one less thing they can profile, all right? We should get up there." She started to walk up but kept talking.

She relented, "Yeah. Wouldn't want your team to think something is up, would we?"

I pulled her back, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Please don't do this, okay?"

"You realize that this is gonna happen every now and then when our career paths cross, right?"

"Doesn't make it any less awkward."

She scoffed, "Wow. I never realized how much awkward could sound like ashamed." She stomped up the steps and left me to ponder the situation in the stairwell. This was gonna be a hard case.
