"Did you see they brought Miles in for questioning?"

"What did he do?"

"I heard something about interference."

"Interference. Everyone knows better than that."

"Well, I suppose, that is why he is being pulled into the room."

"I am glad that I have never been pulled in. I would not want to do this all over again."

"I agree."

Twenty-two hours earlier, Billie had swung open her car door while Anna stood on the passenger side near the gas tank. Both girls had no clue what the car required to start, their most logical thought was it needed gas. Billie made a joke to Anna about hurrying up so they could get their drink on. and then slunk into her seat. She attempted to ignite the engine, but it failed. Billie looked over at Anna with a lost face, raising her thin arms up in the air in an expression of what should we do. More often than not, Billie was concerned with getting drunk and flirting with the opposite sex. Everything about her was playful. Her 5'3" stature and short platinum blonde pixey hairstyle was enticing to all varieties of men. Billie always wore short skirts and plunging necklines, even in the winter. Anna was different. Standing at 5' 6" with straight brown hair and light freckles on her cheeks and nose, she barely exposed any part of her body that would bring attention. Even though Anna appeared to be immersed in the party lifestyle, deep down she was not interested in it. She just lost her way.

Anna laughed, then suggested they drive to the nearest gas station as she turned to walk toward her car. It was parked a couple of feet behind Billie's car on the side of the highway. Her only intention was to get into the driver's seat and drive both of them to the closest station. Before she could walk more than two steps, Anna's smile transformed into gloom. She didn't quite comprehend what she saw, it happened so quickly. Her legs took charge, fleeing from the imminent danger in the hopes of escaping. As quickly as her legs were able to move, she ran off the shoulder of the road and up the snow-dusted slope next to the highway. Until it all stopped, the sound of the cars crunching was deafening. Everything went quiet for Anna. Her body flung forward onto the cold ground. The tires from the right side of the car were heavy as they rolled over the backside of her legs, then her back, then her head. Time stood still. She stretched herself across the earth, as though she was in a slow-motion effect, grabbing the grass, snow and dirt. The only thoughts in her head were, wow this is it. I am dead. There is no way to get out of this.
