We were laying in the grass reading our latest Wattpad book together when his father offered us his car to take for the afternoon. It was a rare occurrence so we jumped at the chance and quickly found ourselves driving towards Tim Hortons. I tried not to stare when he drove but there was something so effortlessly cool about the way he looked in the driver's seat.
We had been best friends practically our whole lives but I would be lying if I said that my feelings for him weren't changing. He wasn't the scrawny kid I had befriended on the soccer field anymore.
"Luna, what do you want to drink?"
"A cold brew please"
"You mean an iced coffee?"
"No, a cold brew"
"Seems like the same thing to me" he shrugged.
"Well there not" I scowled.
"Hmmm there can only be one way to solve this...."
A mischievous grin pulled at the side of his lips and I knew immediately what he was thinking.
"Taste Test!!" We both blurted out in unison followed by hysterical laughter that filled my heart and the car.

When we arrived at the beach I headed straight to a picnic table. Aaron sauntered over carrying the drinks.
"We have no blindfold so I will cover your eyes and you have to promise no peeking" He scolded me.
I nodded silently, attempting to keep my cool. He stepped behind me and I stiffened as his chest lightly brushed against my back.
"Close your eyes" his words drifted over my right ear as his fingers pushed the stray hairs that blew around my face out of the way. Then gently his strong hands covered my eyes.
"Can you see?"
"Nope" I managed out between shallow breaths, my body far too aware of his skin against mine.
Reaching out I took a long sip from the cup on my right, allowing the cold liquid to circulate in my mouth and ignite my taste buds.
The coffee was deep and rich but not overpowering. The texture was smooth and creamy but not heavy.  Best of all though there was a subtle vanilla flavour that seemed to tie it all together. I knew right away this was my cold brew.
"This one is the cold brew" I said with utter confidence.
He released his hands from over my eyes with a huff of defeat.
"seriously? how did you know?"
I turned to him and couldn't help but giggle at the whimpy look on his face. Sometimes that geeky kid was still in there behind his now chiselled jaw. I stood up and stepped towards him, jokingly poking him in the chest.
"Why won't you just accept that I have far better observation skills than you?"
He looked down at my finger still pressed over his heart and then up at me with an intensity that caught me off guard. His gaze lingered between my eyes and then down towards my lips before he spoke.
"Because clearly, you don't."
