'It wasn't my fault!'
'You purposely let your subject fall two flights of stairs which resulted in her being comatose for weeks!' Angel Magnolia spoke. Her piercing blue eyes seemed to freeze me where I stood. They were unblinking and cold, and while her face and skin were still youthful, those eyes gave away her years.
Resisting the urge to roll my eyes I traced circles with my feet onto the soft cloudy floor, letting my dark hair fall around my face, covering me from her gaze.
'You can't honestly believe she didn't deserve it.'
Her eyes flared orange for barely a second and she slammed her hand down onto the white wooden table that seemed to float in front of her, making the floor shake. 'Whether the subject deserved it or not, isn't what we're discussing child,' she continued her eyes returning to the ice blue colour. 'After much discussion with the Council we have come to our conclusion.'
I looked up only to lower my head again when I saw those cold, cold eyes.
'We the council have decided that for your crimes you shall not only be stripped of your wings-'
'What! Are you kidding me! You can't do that!'
She continued as though I hadn't even spoken. '- only to be returned when I or another member of the council see fit.'
Pausing for a second she looked me up and down as though deciding on her next words. ' Furthermore you shall be imprisoned on earth for the time period of at least 2months'
I let out a breath I didn't even know I'd been holding, I could feel my heart pumping quickly in my chest. My fists were clenched tightly and I'm sure the colour from my wings had drained, unlike my face which I could feel heating up and becoming bright red. Luckily my dark hair was still covering my face and hopefully it stopped my humiliation becoming more oblivious.
No, this couldn't be happening, this would make me the first angel in centuries to be stripped of my wings, let alone sent to Earth. The very thought of the place made me feel ill.
'You needn't worry, we picked the very town of the subject you allowed to be hurt,' Angel Magnolia smirked, staring down at me indigently, 'Look for Valerie Wong, she's an ex-guardian who took up residence in the town, you'll be acting as her grand-daughter whose recently been orphaned - I suppose it shouldn't be too difficult to relate to that considering your own parents.'
My nails dug further into my palms and I grinded my teeth together in circles. I would like nothing more that to fly up and knock that smirk off her stupid face, but two things were preventing me from doing this.
This smart voice in my head that told me I was already in enough trouble, and secondly the enchantment placed on my feet made it extremely difficult to move from where I was standing at all.
'Ms. Wong will set you up as a normal person and you take it from there, once we have decided on your next subject you may return, but that could take decades, so for now Ms. Wong can give you any tasks as she sees fit.'
'Wait what about my Virtues do I keep them?' The moment I finished the question I bit hard on my tongue, I shouldn't have said that, now they'll take them too. I cursed under my breath and looked up hopefully, imploring Angel Magnolia to let me keep them.
She clicked her tongue and seemed to mull the idea over in her head.
'Yes,' she answered finally, smirking again she adjusted the papers on her table, 'think of it as a parting gift.'
With that the air around her changed and began to swirl, becoming the same blue as her eyes. She pointed at me with her perfect manicured nails.
' You have been grounded, goodbye.'
I could already feel my feet slipping through the soft floors, 'No, wait please, let me keep my wings,' I cried pulling them round me only to find clumps falling away, they were rapidly changing colour to a dark blue, showing the fear I was feeling, but as they fell away they turned back to grey, the basic colour. Now I'd never see my own wings turn crisp white like the Elder Angels.
My feet were slipping through and the clouds had swallowed me up to my knees. I grabbed the floor around me screaming and clawing the floor. 'No, please no, please just one more chance, please... I please' my words were choked and tears streamed down my face.
Angel Magnolia looked down pitying, and from the mist behind her the faces of the rest of the Council appeared, staring down at me as I disappeared through the floor.
'Goodbye, remember we will always be watching.'
The figures were becoming blurry and my eyes were burning from the light they radiated, my eyelids forced themselves shut, the blackness consumed me. I felt my finger tips being forced from the edge of the hole and as they slipped away I let my arms go limp and fall back, and as I fell away from the light, down towards the earth I allowed myself one last scream.
Greying feathers swooshed around me and then I was gone. I never even felt myself hit the floor below.
