Hey neighbour!

It was almost midnight, no sounds except his rushing thoughts.

Dream lived alone, huge house, beautiful street full of fun and people, but it always seemed to be just him. Although he enjoyed being alone, he still longed to have someone, as everyone does at some point.

His empty dinner plate sat empty and dirty in his lap. Dream laid back and stared at the ceiling. The soft sound of scraping leaves against the windows and the pounding rain was repetitive and horrid, but it was something at least.

Reaching over to grab his phone, Dream sighed knowing the result when he looked at his screen.
He was correct of course, no missed calls, messages or notifications. He wanted to throw his phone across the room, what was the point of trying if people never cared? The only person he had in the end was his best friend, Sapnap. But he was out of town and had no way to communicate with Dream.

He dropped the phone on his floor and shut his eyes. The only solution to his loneliness was sleep.

-----
He tossed and turned for what felt like forever before finally being comfortable.

His eyes began to feel heavy and sleep was within his reach when...

Tap

Dream shot up in his bed being taken aback by the sound. He looked around trying to find the source.

Tap

There it was again!! He looked at his window. It could've been the leaves, right?

Knock knock

Dream shuffled back to the edge of his bed. What? His eyes grew in fear. Who was that?

Knock knock knock

And again. Curiosity was flushing him, but so was fear and self control to not open that window. It was so dark out he couldn't see and his shutters were pulled tight.

Knock..
"hey?"

It was muffled. But he definitely heard it, someone was there. A boy it sounded like, maybe around Dreams age??

"Dude open the window it's cold out here!"

"Hello?" Dream gulped, "Who is that?"

"Stop playing games with me and open the damn window."

The curiosity became overwhelming and he slowly approached the window.

Carefully stepping over to the area, he reached out and pulled his shutters open. After a deep breath in, he unlocked the window and pulled it open.

The boy in the window practically fell into Dreams arms. He was soaking wet due to the rain and freezing cold. The boy hit the floor though, and dream stepped back quickly.

The boy struggled back to his feet and brushed his knees. He straightened up and faced Dream.

"Man! Why did you take so long to open!" The window boy yelped shaking his coat off.

"Well I-" Dream scrambled for words, "well what would you do if someone was knocking and tapping on your window asking to be let in?"

The boy giggled, sitting down on the bed.

"I would be polite and let them in," He replied smiling widely, "because unlike you i have manners!"

Dream chuckled, but a million questions ran around his head, fighting to be asked first.

"Can I ask why you were doing that?" The most important question had won the battle.

"I was coming to say hey to my new neighbour!" He yawned, "and that's the best way to do it."

"Through the window?" Dream asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well duh," The boy rolled his eyes, "my best friend used to live here, and we did it all the time!"

Dream grunted.

"Now i need someone new to continue the tradition!" The boy continued, "so that's you!"

"Isn't that trespassing?" Dream chuckled at his own question.

"Not if you let me in it's not," The boy replied looking around, "and i can already tell you wouldn't leave me out there!"

Dream groaned, "I hope you understand what time it is."

"Oh don't be a pussy," grunted the boy, "it's not even that late."

The clock shining 1:30am said otherwise in Dreams opinion.

"Well then," Dream took a seat next to the boy, " Hello neighbour."

The boys smile grew, "Hey neighbour!"

The both laughed.

Happiness flooded Dream for some reason, this small interaction was filling the never ending loneliness.

" So do you have a name?" Dream said looking at the boy sideways, " or am i just gonna call you window boy forever and ever?"

Another giggle escaped the window boy, "Well i do have a name," he laughed again, "I'm George, but window boy works too."

Dream smiled, "Well then gEoRge," he used heavy sarcasm which caused window boy to roll his eyes yet again, "I'm Dream."

"Okay then dREaM," George met his sarcasm, "It's a pleasure to meet my new neighbour."

Dream smiled.

"Well," George said, "Until tomorrow!"

He moved to sit on the window seal.

"Goodnight dReaM," He moved onto the roof outside the window, "Remember to keep the window unlocked."

"I will," Dream laughed, "Goodnight window boy!"

With that, George was gone and the window was shut again.

George.

The name spun around his brain as he drifted to sleep.

Dream barely knew this boy, but he was all he could think about. Happiness and laughter overtook him as he thought about it.

Maybe he wouldn't be as lonely as he thought..
