---As for this book's existence, your name in this fanfiction is now Brenden. THIS IS IN YOUR POINT OF VIEW---
On a windy Sunday afternoon, I take a deep breath of the calm breeze.
It was good to be alive.
Well, at least until the pair of suspicious teenagers showed up in my backyard with two AK-47's.
First of all, not only had they destroyed my precious cabbage plants, but they also ran over my mom's rose bushes. So I'm not sure what would happen first-- them escaping or my dad chewing them out for 4 hours straight.
The first thing that happened was when I caught sight of them.
Before they entered my yard, I was calmly playing a game on my phone and settling my sleepy gaze on the horizon. After they entered my yard...? Well, let's just say the vase our neighbor bought three years ago is now a hundred shards.
"Dude, calm down!" the boy said. "We're not here to harm you!"
"What's with the AK's then?" I pointed towards their heavy-duty weapons.
"They're...they're for..." the boy started. Three seconds into his stuttering, the girl beside him elbowed him in the chest.
"They're for my dad. He's gone out hunting, but he left his weaponry in the car. We're here to bring it to him-- sorry for the invasion into your property," the girl said smoothly, in a tone that I couldn't talk back to. "Ben, am I right?"
The boy-- or Ben, as she called him, nodded whimsically. Rubbing his arm, he muttered something inaudible to the girl. I could hear the phrase 'silver tongue' and 'Erica' in the sentence, but that was all.
By the way Ben was holding his gun, I could tell he was largely inexperienced in how to use the weapon. Because of this, I decided to believe them. After all, if they were lying, then they'd probably be skilled at shooting.
"So you guys are close friends?" I raised an eyebrow. "No offense, but she--" I pointed at the girl "--looks completely out of your league. Also, she's at least half a head taller than you."
"Shut it," Ben mumbled. "Erica just got her mom's genes. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with the most normal looks that ever exist."
"Consider yourself lucky," the girl, or Erica, said with a smirk. "Just think about Warren."
Ben grimaced. "You've got a point there."
"Who's Warren?" I asked. "And if you're delivering those guns to Erica's dad, then why are you two passing through my backyard?"
"Warren's a former friend," Erica said quickly. "And we decided to pass through your backyard because we were in a hurry, and this is the fastest way possible."
"If you're in a hurry, then why are you two stopping to talk with me?" I crossed my arms in suspicion. "Also, the nearest firing range is at least fourteen miles away. You're seriously walking that distance?"
At this, Erica's lips tightened in frustration. As she tried to think of something to say, I turned back over to Ben. Being the weaker of the two, I decided to put pressure on him.
"Tell me, Ben, in complete honesty. What, in truth, are you two doing here?"
With a flourish, I watched the two squirm in the position, trying to crank up an excuse that countered my evidence. Seeing the possibilities, they probably were out of ideas at this point.
"There's an underground shooting rang-" Erica started.
"Don't give me that crap," I interrupted her statement. "This is Florida, you two. Digging downwards would be asking for a sinkhole. Try studying the terrain sometimes." My eyes narrowed at Ben's shirt, where a tiny badge gleamed. "And I'm also assuming that wearing a badge that says Junior CIA Agent Benjamin Ripley doesn't help your so-called 'true' story. You two have been figured out."
After a brief moment of silence, Erica sighed. "Fine. We'll admit we're from the CIA--"
My breath hitched in excitement.
"--but since you just figured out extremely private information, we won't have much choice but to do this now," taking out a tiny gun from her coat pocket, she pointed it directly at my head.
"Stay still, or I'll shoot."
My palms immediately turned sweaty. "W-wait...I didn't mean to go this far! I was just channeling my inner suspicion, and I found out what you two were up to!"
"I said stay still," Erica hissed, voice sending chills down my spine. My whole body froze in complete fear, and my arms shuddered.
"Good," Erica nodded, verifying that my position wasn't going to change. "Now-- I'll give you two options. Decide immediately, or I'm going to pull the trigger on this thing." She waved over to her handgun.
"Options?" I questioned. "What options?"
"I said don't move!" Erica shouted, pointing at my arms that had instinctively gone forward. I tensed my muscles, preventing further movement, and gritted my teeth. Staying in one place was harder than I thought.
"Alright," Erica huffed a breath. "Your two options are simple: Either come with us, where we'll lead you through our mission, or choose to take up a challenge."
"What's the challenge?" I asked.
Erica smiled. "I'm glad you asked. Your challenge is based on the fact that you think you're such a good detective and found out about what we were really doing."
Ben's hand loosened on his gun, and a slight smile played on his lips. "That's right. Erica, tell him."
"Brendan, your challenge is to catch a specific criminal that we've been chasing for a while now," Erica said, throwing a piece of paper at me. "All the information we know about this person is on that sheet. We'll give you a week to work with us-- and if we find this criminal with your help, then you can feel free to come to join the Junior CIA Academy."
I watched as the paper glided through the air and settled near my feet. This was a hard decision, but I had a good choice in mind. After racking my brain for a few minutes, I turned up to them and opened my mouth to reveal my answer.
