"Whoo!" "We're going home, baby!" "Yeah!" "All right, guys! Good job. Whoo!" "Yeah!" There were lots of shouts and everyone was happy. We saved Minho and would be able to go to the safe haven and live happy safe lives away from WICKED forever. Thomas kissed me again and I smiled into the kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck. We finally made it where we had been staying and we opened the door to the car so we could look for Minho and start helping other kids out. I saw Aris and immediately wrapped my arms around him. "Aris." "Hey, you guys okay?", Thomas asked. "Yeah, we're fine." "Jesus." "There you are. Oh, God!", Harriet said from behind us while we kept walking. "It's okay. You guys are safe. All right? Just hang on", Thomas assured them. There was chatter in the front of the car but I wasn't focusing on that. I was paying attention to the rows of kids, looking for that one face. When we reached the end of the car I knew that it was over. "He's not here", I told Newt, looking sadly at the ground. Kids began getting off the car but Thomas wrapped his arms around me while I clung into him. A few tears fell but I quickly wiped them before Thomas could see me crying. Everyone was talking but it was hard to make out what they were saying when there were so many people talking at once. It was kinda giving me a headache. Thomas and I leaned against the wall, me standing in front of him wrapped in his arms, as Vince began speaking. "Right this way, guys.Come on down here. Come on in, guys! Okay, guys, over here! All right, listen up. I know you've all been through hell. I wish I could say our troubles are over. But we're not through this yet. WICKED's still out there. They're not giving up.'Cause you got something they want. They took you because you're immune to a plague that's wiping out the human race. And they think you're worth sacrificing to find a cure. Well, I don't. So in two days, when we get this tub of rust seaworthy, we're getting the hell outta here. We're gonna go to a place where WICKED will never find you. A place you can start over. A place you can call home. Are you with me?", Vince spoke to the dozens of kids. Thomas walked away and I followed him to the tent where Sonya and Harriet were helping Aris with the cuts on his face. "Here, drink this". "Took you guys long enough to rescue us", Aris said jokingly, smiling a bit. "It's good to see you, too, bud", Thomas told him, causing him to smile more. I rested my hand on his knee while in kneeled in front of him next to Thomas."So what happened?", I asked him, rubbing his knee reassuringly. "I fought back. Tried to, anyway", Aris answered. "You're lucky you found us at all. They had us on the move a lot. It felt like something big was happening", Sonya spoke up. "Any idea where they were heading?", Newt asked from behind us, causing me to look back at him which made me notice how alike the two look. "All I know is they kept talking about a city", Aris responded, leading to us all sharing confused looks with each other. "I didn't think there were any cities left", Harriet said. "That's because there aren't. Not still standing, anyway", Brenda shrugged. "Okay, wait. What about Minho? Why wasn't he on the train?", Thomas asked, concerned. "I'm sorry, Thomas. He was." My eyes widened as I looked at Thomas in shock and complete disbelief.

Thomas lay down the map on the table in front of Vince pointing to the spot I had previously circled when we finished talking with Aris."There, that's it. It's a few hundred miles. Based on the railways, everything that Aris told us, that's gotta be where they're headed", Thomas explained, looking up at Vince. "That's where they're taking Minho. We take everyone who can fight. Follow the roads where we can. We can make it back within a week", I finished, telling Vince the remainder of the plan we had made. "A week? It took us six months to get here. We got over 100 kids here now. We can't just hang out here forever after what we just pulled. You wanna wander off to some random point on the map. You don't even know what's there", Vince responded. "I do. It's been a few years, but I've been there", Jorge spoke up, causing us to turn our attention to him. I smiled, hoping that he would be able to convince Vince (again with the rhymes oml) to go through with our plan. "The Last City. That's what WICKED called it. It was their whole base of operations. If that city is still standing, that's the last place you wanna go, hermano. That's the lion's den", He told us. My smile quickly faded when I realized that he wasn't sticking up for us, he was trying to shut it down. "It's nothing we haven't done before", I defended. "Yeah, with months of planning, and reliable information, the element of surprise, none of which we have now", Vince spoke up again. "Vince, me and Jules thought this through. Would you just hear us out?", Thomas said before getting interrupted by Vince. "The last time we went off half-cocked... I lost everything. You remember that?", he spoke louder, slamming his hand on the table, making me flinch and look down. "Look, I know it's Minho. All right? But you can't ask me to put those kids on the line for one man.I won't do it", he said softer. Suddenly the walkie talkie began to speak and it was very staticky but I could hear the words coming through. "Searching the grid now. A is completed. Scanning B-sector now", someone said. "Shit. Hit the lights", Thomas said as the distant sounds of helicopters could be heard. "Let's go, let's go!" Everyone scattered while me, Thomas and Vince ran outside. Everything began shutting down like the lights as we looked up to see the helicopters above. "Jeez, they're getting close", Vince muttered. "You're right. We can't stay here", Thomas replied. I nodded. It was quiet until Vince placed his hands on our shoulders and walked away. I looked at Thomas, wrapping my arms around him in an effort to comfort him. His arms wrapped around me and he gently kissed me on the head, resting his chin against my head. What are we gonna do now? Later that night while everyone was asleep, Thomas and I snuck past their sleeping bodies, stepping over our friends and the new kids who we had just saved. We walked down the small hallway and up the stairs which would take us down again. Thomas zipped the bag he was taking with us as we made our way down the stairs. "are you sure this is a good idea? I mean-", I began but I got cut off by the British accent which belonged to my blonde best friend. "Where do you think you're going then?", he asked through the darkness before switching on a lamp. He really reminded me of a mom right now. A very concerned mom who caught her children sneaking out after curfew. "Newt...", I began, trying to reason with him. "Don't be a twat about it. I'm already in. Come on", he said, grabbing the bag from Thomas's hands. Wow that was really unexpected I thought he would ground us or something. "No. No, not this time. Look, even if we find Minho, there's no guarantee we make it back from this", Thomas spoke up, shaking his head. "Well, you'll need all the help you can get then, hm?", Newt said, opening the door to a car which revealed Frypan who sat in the front seat smiling at us and Chuck in the back. "Chuck?", I whispered and he grinned at me, waving happily. "Well, we started this together. May as well end it that way, too", Newt spoke, crossing his arms over his chest. "Okay. Let's go get him back", Thomas smiled.

We drove along a quiet road with no sound but the faint noise of the quiet music on the radio. We had reached a seemingly abandoned mandatory infection check. It looked very creepy. Thomas got out from the front seat and looked around while Newt got out from beside me. I followed out of the car, escaping from the middle where I had been squished the whole time. Chuck followed me out and we went to stand with the other boys. "You want us to go in there? I don't wanna come across as too negative, but if I was a Crank, that's exactly where I would be", Newt said. I held Chuck closer to the car, protecting him from anything that could jump out at us while Thomas checked the map. "I don't think we have much of a choice", Thomas replied. We stood in silence for a minute before Newt spoke up again. "All right. I get shotgun." "no fair", I whined, getting back in the middle where I would be squished.
