THIS IS JUST PART ONE.

Nikki felt her stomach flutter a little bit, even though she knew it was stupid. She'd be talking to werewolves today. When had she lost so much self-confidence? She shook her head; now was definitely not the time to doubt herself. She needed to be at the top of her game if she was going to catch up with werewolves, and she was convinced it was possible. It didn't matter if she never shifted.
" Yeah," Nikki muttered under her breath to the book she was holding, " Maybe if I say it enough it'll be true."
" What'll be true?" The voice behind her was low and scratchy. Nikki turned her head a little and felt her messily made bun move a little on her head.
Was that a living werewolf? Was he just directing thoughts toward Nikki, the school's weakling? The thoughts that flew through Nikki's head were bitter, despite that nothing in the voice particularly provoked her. Maybe she was already a bitter old woman?
" And you would be...?" Nikki flinched a little at her own voice. She knew that she hadn't been talkative in days, but she hadn't really expected her voice to come out a rasp. She quickly cleared her throat.
" William. I didn't know we had a new kid, and this is a small school. You must be lying especially low." His voice was light-hearted despite his naturally low tone.
Nikki figured she couldn't get herself out of this one, so she reluctantly turned around and faced the guy who was talking to her. He, like the rest of the school, was a lot taller than Nikki. He wasn't quite as bulky as her tour guide earlier; he looked leaner than that. Tattoos peaked out on his arms from under his uniform. His short military-styled hair was the same though.
" I'm Nikki...and I'm not sure what your talking about," Nikki felt a little small saying this because she actually had to look up to say it to his face.
William smiled a little, but Nikki knew her tone was dismissive so she turned and walked away. She didn't know why she was trying particularly hard to push him away. Maybe to avoid the ' Oh yeah, I'm not really a werewolf; I can't shift' conversation. Maybe that was one of the reasons she was a loser? She was just being unfriendly. Nikki teeth snapped together as she kept walking.
That's when she realized William was following her.
" Oh, I get it now. THAT'S how you lie low," His tone was sarcastic and playful at the same time. Nikki found a smile creeping up on her face.
" Is that a- no it couldn't be...a smile?" His tone was just mocking now. Nikki's eyes flashed to his face.
" Oh shut up," It didn't come out the snap Nikki wanted it to, and she grimaced.
He just laughed at her. " Come on; first period is waiting."]
" Hold on...you're in my first period class?"
