Y/n laid on the cold yet dry grass and stared up at the ocean of stars. The sky was like a black, velvet curtain that covered the atmosphere and the relaxation and comfort brought from losing yourself in it was surreal.
|| Boys POV ||
"What do you think she's doing over there?" Minho asked, pointing to the direction of the silhouette lying on the ground.
"I'm not sure. Should we check on her?" Thomas looked at Newt, who was stood by the fire warming himself up.
"Ok I'll go check on her." He said, finally understanding why Thomas was looking at him for no apparent reason. As Newt started to amble towards Y/n, clouds filled the sky and the stars were lost amongst them. Large heavy rain drops spilled from the night sky and all the Gladers ran for shelter. All except Y/n, who stayed exactly where she was, allowing the rain to land on her face. Eventually, she got up and started to dance in the downpour.
"Come on guys!" She shouted.
"We're good!" Alby yelled back, shaking his head but still smiling.
"You're no fun!" The moonlight illuminated the damp ground and the Y/n's reflection danced in the puddles.
"I am fun!" Minho ran out in the storm with Y/n and he grabbed her hands and spun her around in a helicopter motion.
After Minho and the others headed off to their huts, Y/n was left alone again so she decided to visit the closed doors of the maze. Why is it so dangerous? She wondered, it was just a maze, wasn't it? She sat down in front of it and thought about her past, she remembered that she had a sister and a father figure who had always been there for them. She remembered leaving them and the song playing at the time was, 'Let me down slowly by Alec Benjamin' and how as she walked away for the last time - Y/n didn't know that then - the lyrics went, 'If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely, if your leaving baby let me down slowly.'
After that, she remembered crying the nights away with that song on repeat in her head. All she wanted was to go home - to her real home. Y/n dreamt that night about her guardian's quest to find the safe haven, a place free of infection from a virus called the flare, to keep her and her sister safe.
She had made it her destiny to find her family.
