Thorn was up before the sun, and before he could leave the room his blanket jumped over to him and hugged him. He was well liked by the house, and he appreciated that. Going down to the kitchen he found Honey eating eggs-over-easy, and clearly lost in thought. He thought about speaking to her, but didn't want to disturb her, so he decided to conjure up an omelet. He was getting better at conjuring up some food, but he still made silly mistakes, and today would be no different.
He decided on a simple ham and cheese omelet, but his gesture was too large and wild – a HUGE omelet plopped onto his plate. Most of the omelet hung off the plate and onto the counter, and it was covered in so much melted cheese, that it was running off the omelet onto the counter like a dozen little cheese streams. "Oops."
That caught Honey's attention, and she looked over and started laughing. "Let me guess", still laughing, "you made the gesture a tad too big."
Thorn nodded, "Lesson learned. Don't do magic when you're two-thirds asleep."
"I take it you didn't get much rest either."
"Guess we both had a lot on our minds. Well, eat up so we can get an early start."
Thorn brought over his breakfast, and started to conjure up some milk but paused. He didn't want to make another mistake, so he took a deep breath and attempted to conjure a normal size glass of milk. What he got was a glass about half normal size, but with milk. He sighed, "Well, that's a bit better."
Honey smiled and drank some of her milk as Thorn began to eat. Both quickly noticed something. It shouldn't be happening, but every time Thorn put some omelet into his mouth, the omelet replenished what he had cut. They watched as time after time, he ate and the omelet replenished itself. Honey reached over and cut off a bite, and again, the omelet replenished itself.
Honey looked at the ceiling, "House, are you causing this to happen?" The house responded with a deep groan that sounded like "No." Looking at Thorn, "What, exactly, did you try to conjure?"
Thorn thought for a moment, "My thoughts were for a nice large ham and cheese omelet that would last me until dinner."
Laughing, "Well, that's what you got. Probably a lot larger than you expected . . . and it will continue to replenish itself until time for dinner."
"Oh." Thorn was embarrassed, it drove home the point that he had a lot of practice and learning in front of him. Words are very important in communicating with others, and in casting spells.
"When you have had your fill, we'll get Kong and head to Manitoba and your parents. I'm sure they have missed you."
"Have you fed Kong yet?"
"First thing this morning. He was surprised I remembered."
As they started to get Kong, Thorn asked, "Aren't you going to make my omelet disappear?"
"No. It should vanish all by itself when supper time arrives. At least that's what I hope. Otherwise, I might be overrun with all sorts of creatures feasting on your breakfast when I get home."
They harnessed Kong to the cart, and started to Manitoba. Thorn sensed that Kong and Honey were having a discussion, but he didn't know about what. Finally, his curiosity got the better of him, "What are you two talking about? Trying to decide if I'm worthy enough to continue? Or something else?"
Kong popped into his mind, "Could you hear us?"
"No, it was just a feeling . . . a 6th sense I guess, that you two were in a deep discussion."
