Summer of 2004
22-year-old Mark Wallace is taking an evening stroll on Vermont Ave in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma two blocks from his house by Bernie's gas and convenience store. With his blonde hair slicked back, he's 6ft 2in, 225 lbs, and is very muscular, he is by far the most attractive guy in the city. He is also ranked a sergeant for the Oklahoma City PD. He lives with his dad in a 7,000 sq ft mansion fitted with a weight room, arcade, billiard room, bowling alley, basketball court, indoor pool, and a go-kart track.
Mark's mother left them for a successful business owner and she hasn't bothered to check in on his dad or her children since.
But Mark and his dad are very blessed. His dad works at a big oil company that pays him well. They have a big house, food, and cars to get them around, and a golden retriever named Fred to meet them at the door when they get home.
Mark was lost in his thoughts when all of a sudden he heard the POP! POP! POP! of an AK-47. He crouches behind some trash cans on the curb and when he realizes the gunshots came from the direction of his home, he rushes down an alley and after about a minute of running, he comes to his neighbor's house at the end of the alley. He follows the neighbor's wood planked fence that ends right next to his garage. He slowly creeps up on his garage crouched against his neighbors fence. When he gets to the end of his neighbor's fence, he notices a black Chevy Suburban with tinted windows parked in front of his garage. He draws his 45mm Glock from his holster and clicks the safety off, and calls in the OCPD dispatch on his radio to get back up. He opens the door on the side of the garage slowly and yells, "OCPD! If there is anybody in here, make yourself known!". There is no response. He yells again, "OCPD! If there is anybody in here, make yourself known!", still no response. He then steps into the garage and goes up to the garage door. He opens the door and slowly walks into the kitchen to search the house. When he gets to the living room he finds two masked figures rushing out the backdoor with a black bag stuffed full of stuff from their home. He fires a couple of shots at the men. He hit the 1st figure in the shoulder and shot the 2nd figure right in the center of his back. The 1st figure got away but the 2nd figure wasn't so lucky. He checks the guy's pulse "No pulse"he then goes to check the rest of the house, clears the 1st story, then walks up the stairs by the kitchen to clear the 2nd story. The only thing they didn't get into was the safe. "Good.", Mark thought. He walks back down the stairs and remembers he forgot to check his dad's room. He walks around to his dad's room and opens the door. He finds his father crumpled up on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood. Mark collapses to his knees and tries to prevent the blood from coming out of his father's chest. " Please stay with me. You're all I have."
23 days later
Mark is at Stone Wood Cemetery visiting his father's grave. He still blames himself for not being there when an old rival back in the day arrived at the house, stole everything and shot his father. He was able to restore his house, but the part of his heart he lost that day will never be fixed. He let his older sister Tracy and his younger brother Brian stay at the house until they could get enough money to buy their own houses. They too are mourning their father's death. Mark kept his dad's room exactly how he left it.
Mark gets onto his knee and traces his fingers on the words " Tony Wallace. Father, Friend, Honored Airman." Mark freezes. He never remembered his dad being an airman. He continues tracing " Air Force pilot. 1st division of New Tech squadron. Medals: Silver Star, Purple Heart."
