"sara, honey, could you run downtown and pick up some coffee for me?" my mother called from the other room.

"sure thing, just gotta finish packing up my stuff." i folded the last of my clothes and placed them in a large black garbage bag. i was going to miss this place but it was a relief to finally get my own apartment, after all, most 21 year olds did. it was a major thing, it was a big step for me. after all, growing up with just my mom, i've grown to being around her all the time and having someone there for me. the thought of living alone was both frightening and exciting.

i walked downstaies and put on a pair of black boots and a light coat. it was pretty chilly for late april. i called to my mom and told her i was leaving and then i was on my way to downtown, which just so happened to be a mere 20 minutes away. i didn't mind walking, it was nice. the wind was extreme though, blowing my hair everywhere and making it even colder than it was.

when i finally got to the supermarket it was relatively empty, which i very much enjoyed because that meant no "small talk" with neighbors or childhood friends or people whom you're supposed to know, but you don't.

i walked all the way down to aisle 7 where the coffee was hidden and picked put the blueberry coffee my mother preferred. i didn't mind it, though it had a funny smell.
i put the coffee into my basket and walked back to the checkout lanes where i was met by a very strange boy at my cash register.

"hello, how are you?" the cashier asked. he had purplish hair and these green hazel eyes that captivated you and made you never want to look away, though it was inevitable.

"i'm great, and yourself?"

"eh, peachy." he said with a slight laugh and a smile while bagging the coffee.

"$3.75 is your total, ma'am." i handed him the money and took my bag, muttering a thank you before leaving.

i just so happened to walk outside when thunder erupted from the clouds and it for suddenly dark and extra windy, i knew this meant i had to get home as fast as possible to get home dry. yet, because my life is a tale of unfortunate events, it began to downpour halfway into my walk.

by then there was hardly any place i could go for refuge and i almost gave up, before i saw a small little cafe on the corner, and i ran. it wouldn't matter how fast i got there, i was already soaked down to my skin.

a little bell went off as i opened the door, and i noticed the shop was empty.

"hello?" i semi-yelled into the shop. no answer. i set my things on a table and walked over towards the counter. there was a tiny bell, beside it, in very neat handwriting, it read ring for assistance. so i rang, and, get this, no one came out from anywhere. as i was about toring it for the second time, i heard some shuffling from the backroom. and no long after a tall boy arrived from the akroom, tying his apron. he looked a bit rushed as his cheeks were slightly pink and he was out of breath, he must've been running.

"hi, hello, how may i help you?" he attempted a crooked smile and his black hair, a little darker than mine, was all messy and discheveld with curls sticking out in awkward places. his brown eyes, very light brown, were staring at me and i suddenly remember where i was.

"ma'am? hellooo?" he was waving his hand and suddenly i felt my cheeks flush from embarrassment.

"uh, oh yeah. sorry, can i have a hot chocolate?"

"sure thing, just go sit down and ill bring it over to ya." and with that i nodded and walked back to my seat. i watched him as he poured my hot chocolate into the Styrofoam cup and brought it back to me.

"thanks," i paused to read his name tag,"michael."

"you're welome..." he paused to and i realized he obviosuly didn't know my name.

"its sara." i smiled and laughed a little bit ar my stupidity.

"sara." he returnded the smile and left and pulled out a broom and mop from behind the counter. as i slowly sipped and he cleaned, pieces of his tattoo would slip out from his shirt. there was one on his bicep that looked like a dream catcher, and another on his collar bone, but i couldn't make out what it was or what it said. all this time i forgot that i was staring andnfor the second time that night, he snapped me out of a daze.

"the shop is offically closed, and im leaving. im not entirely sure you want to sit here in the dark all night?" he had changed out of his apron amd work clothes and into tight black pants and a blue flannel that was slightly open.

"oh my god. sorry about that," i fumbled to grab my things and pulled a $5 bill out of my pocket and handed it to him, but he just shook his head.

"its on the house, don't worry." he smiled and i muttered a thank you and exited the store, with him following shortly behind. i turned around and called his name, even though he was already heading the other way. he turned around.

"thanks for the hot chocolate, it was nice." i smiled and gestured towards the cup in my hand.

"you already said thank you Sara," he chuckled, "hope to see you around some time." and with that he waved and turned around. i stood a little while longer, watching him leave, and then i made my way back home completely forgetting that my mother was expecting me an hour before.
