The Voice

Deep within the walls of Securia castle, slept two young girls. One girl slept peacefully, deep in her dreams. The child on the left continued to toss and turn, fighting something in her sleep.

Her eyes danced under her eyelids until suddenly, those same eyelids shot open, filled with fear. She sat up, staring intensely into the dark. Intense anxiety overwhelmed her young mind as she continued just staring. She wasn't sure what she was looking at, or if she wasn't even seeing anything at all, but it was a bad feeling, worse than she had ever felt in her eleven years. The girl wanted so badly to scream, or run to her sister's bed side. But she didn't. She just continued to stare while tears formed in her eyes.

Then, a voice rang loudly in her ears. The voice was frightening and the very tone of it, made the girl's heart pound with intensity. The tears that had formed finally made a river down her cheeks.

"Something is going to happen," the voice hissed. "You mustn't say a word to anyone. Or everyone within these castle walls, everyone you love will die the most painful death."  The voice was shrill but oh so evil. It pierced the girl's ears. But, she couldn't stop listening to it's foul threats. The girl began to cry as the voice continued spitting its violent poison at her. She didn't understand what was happening or why. She wanted to run and hide

The other girl awoke and arose from her bed just the same. Though, she wasn't scared nor did she sit staring in front of her like her sister did. Instead she rubbed her eyes and looked over to the other side of the room.

"Mak, what's wrong?" She asked, affectionately referring to her sister by her childhood nickname. She looked, trying to trace her eyes to the exact spot Makayla was staring at.

Makayla began shaking uncontrollably, with her bottom lip quivering. "Don't you hear it?" She cried, desperate to know that her sister heard the horrible voice too. The voice spoke again. "Don't! I'm warning you!" It screamed with anger. Mak cried out in horror, terrified. The voice chilled her to the bone and ripped at her core.

Makayla waited several moments until her sister finally spoke. "I don't hear a thing. Just you," She said sympathetically. After a few seconds, she stood up from her bed and quickly pranced over to the other side of the room, shoving her body under the covers of Makayla's bed.

"I don't understand Mia," Mak sobbed. "Why couldn't you hear it?"

Mia shrugged, becoming slightly frightened. Nothing had ever happened like this before. Her eyes had adjusted to the dark and she could finally see around the room. To her and Mak's surprise, there was no one there at all nor had there ever been. Mia looked over to Mak who looked towards the front of the room once again. The fear in her eyes had faded, but now she was filled with intense worry. Mia grasped her hand, making their fingers intertwine. She hesitated to speak at first but then mustered up the courage.

"What was it? I mean, what kind of noise?" She asked quietly. Makayla did not answer. She refused. She only sat, staring down, almost as if she was ashamed. Mia was getting frustrated, not with her sister, but with herself for not being comforting enough.

"Was it a voice?" Mia questioned, pushing her sister for an answer. "It's better to talk about what scares us then hold it in!" She smiled, trying to lighten up the mood. Mak smirked just a little, and looked up at her sister, her green eyes meeting Mia's blue. As their eyes met, a peace washed over Mak. She felt a little better. "It was a voice. But I think it's nothing. Maybe I'm just crazy! Or imagined it," She shrugged, giggling just a little bit.

Mak went on to explain exactly what it said and after several minutes, Mia's concerned expression turned to shock. "I think you may be losing your marbles!" She joked, harmlessly. Mak nodded, laughing about the situation.
