 Chapter 6 - Unafraid.

I awoke to a loud tapping sound. I sat upright and found myself on a king-size bed. I was startled by this. Last I remember I was downstairs, upset by what Matt had tried to do. I squinted in the darkness, trying to make out my surroundings but it was so dark, it was hard to see. I could, however, see light seep in from a curtain that hadn't been shut right. I threw the duvee off of me and shivered as the cold air hit me. I regretted gettin out of bed so soon.

Why was it so cold? Oh, right, werewolves. That had to have something to do with it.

The tapping continued. I huffed as I made my way over to the curtains. I drew them back quickly and then gasped.

How the hell did he find me?

There, floating seemlessly, was Nate. He grinned at me and motioned for me to open the window. Without thinking, I did as he wished and stood back as he swooped in. The hell?

   "Hello Sarah."

Strangely, I was kind of happy to see him. Stupid werewolves. I'd much rather take my chances with Nate than with them.

"You going to get me out of here?," I asked hopefully. At least I could trust in the fact that I couldn't trust Nate, right?

"You want to leave, Sarah? Do you not enjoy staying with filth?" Weird, he sounded annoyed.

"No, I do not. So can we get out of here already?," I hissed. He raised an eyebrow at me but nodded.

I bit back a shriek as he, in one liquid movement, hoisted me onto his back and then dived through the open window. He landed solidly on his feet while I bit my tongue on impact. Not delaying any further, he began to run. His speed was breathtaking. I clung on tight as he ran. I could hear barking behind us.

I whipped my head around and saw wolves. Lots of wolves. And they were in hot persuit of us.

"RUN!!," I yelled at Nate who, in turn, sped up. But the werewolves did not lag behind. Nate jerked around suddenly, caught a wolf by it's neck and flung it against a tree. They were surrounding us. We were out-numbered.

"Nate, don't let them get me! Please, Nate! Kill me before they do. Please!," I begged. I was done with those creatures.

They were circling us, growling. Their teeth were bared and shone in the moonlight. One of them jumped, his teeth aimed at Nate. In reflex, I thumped him on the nose before he could come into contact with Nate's fist. He shrank back into the crowd and I smiled to myself. "Thanks," Nate whispered.

The mass made an opening and Matt and Evan walked into the circle.

"You have something that doesn't belong to you, vampire!" Matt barked.

"She is mine. Ask the human herself!," Nate spat.

I spoke up. "I'm with the vamp! Team Edward!"

Evan scoffed and shook his head at me. I unwrapped my arms from around Nate's neck and went to stand in front of him. I folded my arms and looked at them with contempt, daring them to say something.

"You've already messed with her head?" Matt sounded unsure of himself.

"No. It's her. I've done nothing... yet." I sneaked a look back at Nate. He was smiling but had an evil glint in his eye. I rolled my eyes and returned my gaze to the two men in front of us.

"Hi, I'm here! I can answer for myself, people. Uh... wolves, vampire. He hasn't compelled me or anything. Anyway, I'm with him, 'kay?"

   "No. That is not okay!"

I shrugged. "Deal with it. We just won't invite you to the wedding."

I seemed as if all the wolves, even in animal form, were gaping at me.

"I think my fiancee has you all told. Although we'll be sure to send you a gift bag."

I smiled up at Nate. This was fun! Even though the wolves were taking the marriage thing seriously.

"Then where were you when she was getting the crap kicked out her at home?" I glared at Matt. How dare he bring up my personal business!

I turned around to face Nate who looked concerned.

"I told you about what was happening. I know you tried, sweetie, but it didn't help. I had to get outta there. I wasn't thinking. I'm sorry." I made my expression soften as I looked up at him.

Without warning, he leaned down and touched his lips to mine. I was suprised, but I didn't let it show on my face. I took his cold hand in mine and turned. I smiled sweetly at Matt and Evan and all the other wolves.

"There's no way this is going down!," Evan yelled. I was shocked at his outburst. The mass of wolves growled. I crouched down defensively in front of Nate. I growled right back at them.

Just then, Nate pulled me to my feet and swung me on to his back. I gazed down and saw that we were floating again. Like Erik in True Blood! I kissed his neck and waved at the wolves below. A few of them snapped at us.

So sure, I had no idea what was happening, I was simply too glad to be away from those mutts.

The night sky was clear and the bloated moon cast light into the shadows. A cool breeze made me shiver. The view was amazing. We weren't too high up but the howls that echoed through the night sounded distant. I shut my eyes.

I wondered absently whether I would ever experiance this again.

Enjoy every moment of peace you get because it won't last long.

Turns out, mine didn't last as I was violently ripped from Nate's back. I screamed as I tumbled downwards.

Did I mention I have a slight fear of heights?
