"Shinobu-san! Is this working?" The faint tapping sound that came from the black haired girl's phone woke them out of their tired trance. They normally never stayed up this late... But her girlfriend insisted on it. Although the distance would make things pretty hard, she was persistent on them watching the fireworks through her phones.

This was their first year away from each other, considering even the restrictions this year brought they wouldn't be able to see eachother even if they wanted. Shinobu traveled over to the US for college, leaving Mitsuri behind to pursue her job as a teacher. They missed each other dearly.

"Yes! It is. Stop moving your phone around too much though, you're messing up the audio dear." Kocho could hear the other shuffle around once more as she finally saw the other's face pop on screen, a tint of pink on their face, eyes squinted from the huge smile they had on display for the other. "OkayOkay! That better? Now show your face before I walk all the way over to the US and miss these fireworks!"

Shinobu giggled as she propped her phone up on a stack of books laying on her bed, pressing the camera on. The window right next to her reflecting onto her pale complexion and dark hair, she looked like the midnight sky with the way her eyes glimmered like stars, Mitsuri noticed this, gasping dramatically. "This is so much better." The pink haired girl propped her head onto her hand, leaning into it.

"You don't look too bad yourself Mitsuri." Shinobu wasn't lying either! The lights that glowed inside the other girl's kitchen gave her a warm tone, an admirable sight for anyone, Shinobu was glad to have it all to herself.

The older's face warmed from the compliment, dismissing it with a wave of her hand. "You're so lucky... You get to hoard the fireworks for yourself! While I have to watch it on this shi- crappy TV. Did I tell you yet how Mochi somehow tipped it over? The screen is like- ¼ black now." The black cat jumped onto the counter right on time, sucking the pink girl's attention away from the screen as she scolded the cat once more for ruining her only TV.

Kocho looked out the window, enjoying the sound of the soft bickering coming from the other. It felt like the other was right here with her, sitting on the bed with that pesky cat. She wished she could reach out and grab the other, hold her. It's been such a long year for the both of them, Mitsuri was still extremely annoyed over the fact she did mostly online teaching while Shinobu found the lack of human presence terrible.

Her stocic roommate didn't seem to mind it. Giyuu, he was quite the weird one, although she did find teasing him entertaining. Sadly he's been ignoring it lately. She glanced over at the clock. "Mitsuri, it's about time. 11:58." The short girl spoke slightly louder than she normally does, trying to reach over the sound of Mitsuri and their cat's feud.

"God really? Time does go by fast, right Shinobu-san? It was like just yesterday we were saying goodbye to each other before you left! Isn't that crazy?" Shinobu hummed in agreement, picking up her phone so it faced the window. Capturing the moon and where the fireworks were just about to go off.

It was already the first day of 2021 for Mitsuri, 1 hour in fact, Shinobu missed their countdown because of her studies of course. Mitsuri was still happy to share Shinobu's new year though.

A gasp could be heard from her phone as Mitsuri started counting down from 10, Shinobu joined in, glancing down at the others' faces. "3... 2... 1!! Happy new years Shinobu-san!!" Mitsuri seemed more enthusiastic than Shinobu ever could be during this time as the fireworks boomed from outside. Kocho picked up her phone, placing a small kiss on the camera. Mitsuri giggled "If I was there I'd give you the biggest kiss! Definitely in this type of lighting!"

"I expect that same energy once this mess is over." Shinobu teased "Ah! I will. Once you come back down here!" Mitsuri spoke back with just as much confidence. "Of course. Happy new years, love."
