A/N: listen to the song!

"Hey Austin," Nathan greeted me as I stepped into the locker room to change before practice.

"Hey Nathan," I returned, still thinking about Natalie.

"You look like you've got something on your mind. What's up?" he asked as we changed into our football jerseys.

"It's not like I just kissed my best friend- who I've had a crush on since we met-, y'know?" I felt a smile tugging at the corner of my mouth.

"No. Way," Nathan laughed. "You finally kissed Natalie!"

"Yeah, I just did," I laughed too.

Nathan grinned at me. "Next thing you know, you'll be marrying her."

I knew it was meant as a joke, but I could picture myself marrying Natalie and living with her for the rest of my life. I smiled as Nathan and I walked out of the locker room, thoughts of Natalie floating around my mind.

-

Football practice was over. I changed out of my jersey and into a T-shirt and shorts, before walking out of the locker room. As I opened my car door, Natalie was still the only thing on my mind. Would we really end up dating, or maybe even more? This was what I'd wanted for years- to have a chance to be with her.

I turned on the radio, and 'Not About Angels' from The Fault In Our Stars- the movie, that is- began playing. I listened to this song with Natalie all the time, because The Fault In Our Stars was, after all, the book that brought us together.

Turning the volume up, I sang along to the song as I turned onto the busy main road. "If your heart was full of love, could you give it up?"

"Natalie can sing this so well," I thought aloud, smiling to myself.

And then it happened, all in a blur- as I crossed an intersection, a vehicle- I couldn't see what- coming from my left ran the red light and slammed into my car. I fell slumped across the driver's seat and passenger seat, not understanding what was going on.

Natalie was the only person on my mind as I drifted in and out of consciousness. She'd be there in the silent darkness I was floating in, smiling and laughing, and she'd be there, screaming my name from outside the car as I regained consciousness, together with police officers and paramedics, sirens ringing everywhere.

I didn't know anything, except the fact that Natalie was with me.
