Even if the two buildings seemed very similar to Jay, the attitude of the westerners towards him was completely different from the North. They would side-eye him and glare, whisper about him and intentionally bump into him several times along his walk from the main door to the foot of the stairs.
There, he stopped and realized he did not know where to go. He was about to take his first step towards trying his luck, when he heard a familiar voice,
“Jay?”
He turned around and came face-to-face with Hyunjin, from class C. He was one of the few West he befriended when they came South. Since Hyunjin already had a boyfriend, he was somehow more comfortable to talk to.
“What are you doing here?”
“Hi Hyunjin. I’m here to see…a friend. He lives in the A corridor.”
Hyunjin seemed very surprised.
“You have a friend that lives in the A? How did you meet him?”
“It’s…a long story.”
Hyunjin stared at him for a second, hoping for him to explain anyway, but nothing came.
“Oh, I see,” he said, laughing. “Come, I’ll show you the way.”
And, instead of taking the stairs, Hyunjin guided him towards the elevators, situated behind the huge staircases.
The A corridor was on the last floor, and that’s where Hyunjin left his friend, saying,
“I’m not comfortable entering this corridor. It’s kind of a special place…I’m not even sure I’m allowed in. My corridor is on the floor right below, so if you need me again, you know where to find me.”
They exchanged a smile, Jay thanked Hyunjin, and the latter took the stairs to reach his floor.
Jay crossed the door adorned with a golden A. After Hyunjin had refused to enter with him, he knew he would be in trouble if he got caught.
Fortunately, the corridor was empty. Having no idea which of the rooms was Sunghoon’s, he hurried towards the common room and was about to enter to hide, when he happened to hear the one person he was here for.
On the other side of the door, Sunghoon was discussing with friends,
“I do not understand your interest for this North, Sunghoon,” one said. “Damian, was it?”
“Yes,” continued another, “He is a Roh, as boring as can be! Not a class representative, not a fresh first year nor a cool senior year…he could not be farther from your league, Sunghoon. You must be so deeply in love!”
Hearing that, Jay flinched behind his door.
“You got it all wrong guys, I’m not in love,” replied Sunghoon. “It’s a long story. In fact, I’d prefer if he disappeared…”
Hearing that, Jay decided to make his entrance. The whole group turned to him and seeing his uniform, jumped on their feet.
“Jay?” exclaimed Sunghoon.
Jay was about to make a fuss and the West were ready to take him on, but Sunghoon grabbed his arm and pulled him out the common room, all the way to his room.
