SATURDAY
So today I woke up on hearing a small boy's voice coming from the kitchen. I quickly walked to the kitchen guessing who it would be.
Nobody in my family has a voice like this, I thought.
For a second I thought my parents had adopted a samall brother for me.
But nah! I am not that disappointing. Or am I?
Agh! I need to ask if I am a disappointing excuse for a daughter.
But that could wait because I saw my cousin Harry sitting on the kitchen counter pretending to play drums with spoons in his hands.
And to think my parents adopted a new child.
'Goodmorning, Harry! What brought you here?', I asked with a yawn.
Startled, he looked up and answered,' Hi Lee! Mommy said tomorrow is gramma's birthday so we are going shopping for tomorrow.'
Then it hit me.
Grandma's birthday. Tomorrow.
We give gifts on birthdays.
I don't have anything to gift grandma.
I did not even remember it's her birthday tomorrow.
Worst granddaughter ever.
I bearhugged Harry for reminding me and confusion was evident on his face.
'Lee, I can't breathe...', Harry struggled.
'Oh! Sorry', I apologised.
I almost killed my five year old cousin.
'So, where is your mom?', I asked him.
'I don't know, she said that aunt hailey and she would be making a list of what was needed and told me to sit here and play drums', he replied, holding up the spoons in his hands to show that he had obeyed them.
How typical of them.
I took Harry to my room and went into the bathroom to change. Couldn't leave poor Harry alone in the kitchen.
I brushed my teeth and put on my floral dress with a denim jacket over it. Then Harry and I went in search of our irresponsible parents.
So much for being kindergarten teachers.
After finding them in the TV room arguing over what flavour of cake to buy, we got in the car and dad drove us to the departmental store.
On reaching the store, Harry and I went in search of balloons.
I never imagined selecting ballons to be so difficult. Harry would not stop commenting on every piece of balloon that I chose.
I just picked a bunch of balloons and turned to ask Harry what he thought of them when I saw someone familiar.
Mr. Hazel eyes. With another girl.
'Gia!', I heard Harry shouting. And before I could stop him, he ran towards the girl with Mr. Hazel eyes.
'Harry! Fancy meeting you here', Gia greeted.
After an exchange of names and curious answers, I found out that Gia is Harry's babysitter and Mr. Hazel eyes, whose name is Kyle, is her brother.
I could only smile at Kyle because I would start blabbering about his eyes once I opened my mouth.
We said our goodbyes and Harry and I joined our parents at the counter.
Guess I would have to visit Harry's place more often now that I know Kyle and Harry are neighbours.
After a quick stop at the bakery, we went home gushing about how tasty the blueberry pie was.
Great day with the family.
Though I still haven't decided what to buy grandma.
There's still tomorrow morning so...
