MONDAY
Dear Becky,
Crazy day today. It was horrible. First thing I did after my English class got over was run to art class. No waiting for Lila or anything. I never want to be late for art class again.
So I entered the class and no surprise, I was the first one there. I looked at the painting I made. Pretty good, actually.
I had a nice thing going on with the greenish-blue grass and the red sky. That's when the person I least expected to see so early entered the class- Darren. Weird guy, he is. I thought popular guys always arrived late to class.
'Oh! look what we have here!' A grin was plastered on his face but I guess it is more like a smirk. I don't really know cause he always has this face on, I can no longer make out which is which.
'Hi Darren.' I said bored.
'You know Leighton, we've known each other a long time but never have you told me you had a younger brother.'
'What are you saying? I don't have one.'
'Really? looking at your painting here, I could've sworn a three year old drew this.' Egotistical jerk.
'Whatever. What are you, Mozart?' Damn! Can you believe it Becky? I completely forgot about Darren having a brother at that moment! It would have made a great comeback!
'Wait, did you just say Mozart? You really think Mozart is a painter?' And with that he burst into a heap of laughter. And I thought Mozart painted the famous Mona Lisa. I have everything messed up in my brain.
'Okay fine! I'm an idiot when it comes to painting! Happy?' I raised my voice at him.
'Yes. You suck at this. Anyways, look at these-' he pulled some drawing papers out of his backpack and handed them to me.
And boy, were they good!
'I don't mean to lengthen your nose but these are amazing, Darren! Are these yours?' I had to ask! I couldn't believe it. My bully can really paint well!
'Yup!' he said, popping the 'p'. 'You know, you can take one of these... I actually feel bad, looking at your painting.'
And take, I did! As much as I'm encouraging him to insult me, I couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to score an A in art.
'Thank you so so much!' I gushed to him.
'Hey! You now officially owe me a ten dollar meal!' he declared.
'You devil! I knew there was a catch to this display of kindness right here!'
'Well, take it or leave it.' He said proudly.
I took the offer. I know. Stupid, right? But you have to understand, I wasn't thinking right at that moment.
But it was a good thing I took the offer because people wouldn't stop complimenting my painting. Even my art teacher said that my strokes were great. Whatever that means.
And Lila wouldn't stop interrogating me about how I got so good at painting. Jeez. I wonder how.I really owe the devil at that.
Writing that down felt weird. But hey! This will only be between you and me. Got it, Becky? There is a reason I named you Becky, after all. So that I can share whatever I feel I cannot tell my best friend. I'm glad you're a girl.
