September 1st - 1972
Waking up on the first day of September, Aurora felt scared. Never in a million years would she have thought that she would be a witch, sure she was always different from the rest of her town but being a witch? Even for a girl with her imagination, it seemed impossible, but she would soon learn that even the impossible would become possible.
So without much further thought did the blonde finally roll out of her bed, her sheets still smelling like lavender and her mint green walls would be severely missed. Her mom Eliza was already making breakfast -pancakes to be more specific, but those were only for special occasions.
"Good morning dear, did you sleep well?", her mother questions while pouring three glasses of orange juice. The 11 year old shrugs and folds her hands over each other, a poor attempt to hide the shakiness. Her father comes barrelling down the steps, without noticing it was almost 9. If they waited any longer, they wouldn't have time to get to the train station and say their goodbyes. "Morning my loves, I'm afraid we'll have to eat our breakfast in the car if we want to make it on time." The teen immediately knew that everything that could go wrong today, would go very wrong.
The car ride was filled with chatter from her parents, they were so thrilled that their daughter was allowed into the prestigious school known as Hogwarts. It seemed as if were parents were more excited than her, all they could talk about was how bright and extraordinary her future would be, and all Aurora could think about was the life she was leaving behind. "Rory, sweets we are here.", her dad Thomas had already tears welling up in his emerald colored eyes. The trio had to say their goodbyes here, the witch would have to pass alone through the brick wall and aboard the express. "Do I really have to go?", the teen begs, her two brown suitcases at her feet while her mother tries to get Aurora's black cat out of the car. "At least give this school a chance until Christmas if you're still convinced that it isn't for you, you can go back to your old school."
With teary eyes and shaking hands, says the girl her farewells. Passing through the brick wall was much easier than anticipated but what blew her socks away was the view that welcomed her. A scarlet colored train stood in front of, and the entire train platform was filled with family's saying goodbye to their children. The more that Aurora stood by and watched, the angrier she got, it became undeniably clear that she would never have a moment like this with her parents. Aurora would always have to feel that empty void inside her when boarding the Hogwarts express.
A tall lanky boy with glasses walks up to her when noticing the last look on her face, "Hello I'm Remus, are you a first year?", the youthful boy asks. "Yes and my name is Aurora, nice to meet you.", the blonde says and pulls her cat closer. Together the two teens load their baggage onto the train. Without giving her much of a choice, Remus pulls her into compartment filled with three other boys and two girls. "That's James, Sirius and the other one is Peter. The girl with red hair is Lily and last but not least is Alice, everybody this is Aurora.", Remus introduces her to his friends while the rest of them makes place for the nervous first year.
The train had a weird smell -sweat mixed with the smell of sweets and another smell she couldn't place.
Lily and Alice were the sweetest people Aurora had ever met, both had told her that if she was placed in Gryffindor or Hufflepuf, she would have a bed in their room with her name written on it. The longer they sat together in the compartment, the more she become sociable. It was almost impossible to get her to shut up when Sirius and James explained quidditch to her. Peter promised to introduce her to Marlene when they arrived at Hogwarts, the other blonde would love her.
Her nerves came back rushing in when her new found friends had to enter a carriage and she would have to sit in a boat with the other first years. "Rory you'll be fine, us gryffindors always look out for each other.", with a smirk and a wink that most girls would swoon for did Sirius walk away, the male didn't even known if she would be in his house but it wouldn't deter their newfound friendship. The boat ride passed quickly, Aurora was placed with a boy with dark hair -almost the color of the midnight sky- and a group of other girls. One girl stood out from the rest of them, her name was Dorcas and she had the most calming aura around her. Dorcas had gripped her hand when they walked into the room, the sorting hat would sort them into their houses.
She was the first name to be called, with trembling legs did she walk onto the stage. She had to wiggle to get onto the tall chair, the girl prayed to nobody would notice but by the small smiles on the faces of Lily and Remus, she knew that her praying didn't help. The dust-covered hat was placed onto her head, and all the girl could think about was how much she missed her parents and longed for their comforting words. The sorting hat was barely placed onto her head before belting out hufflepuf. Next was the boy that sat next to her on the boat, Regulus Black was placed in slytherin. The sorting hat kept calling names until they finally came to Dorcas, the bright witch was placed in ravenclaw. The dark blue and bronze complimented her dark skin and raven colored hair perfectly.
Aurora would never expect that the people she met today would become not only her close friends but also her family.
She had a path before her filled with laughter, love and friendship but also with grief, heartbreak and death.
So I have Monday my anatomy exam and my dumb ass decided that now is the perfect time to start another fanfic. This is a Regulus x oc story but this isn't an enemies to lovers story (much to my regret). I also have some other books on my page, euphoria which is a criminal minds story and monster which is a true blood fanfic.
I hope you enjoy this story and stay safe, my loves <3
