"I visited him everyday through that door. He loved seeing me, talking to me, eating with me, he loved doing everything with me. But one day when I got home...the door was gone.

Like it had never existed.."

——————————————————

I pull into the driveway of my newly bought home, sighing, knowing it would take me forever to receive any of my items from the previous house.

I had lived in a bad area before, somehow learning that only five years after i had arrived.

As I walked in, the smell of charcoal filled my nose, I took it in and walked around the old building. I thought buying a house built in the 18th century would be cool, I guess I was correct.

"I wonder who lived in this house all those years ago?" I asked, as if I would've gotten an answer. (Altered)

As I walked around on the creaking floors, opening doors and looking into the rooms they lead to, I got to a door that was locked. I assumed it was just the door for the electrical box until I realized..this house is from the 18th century and hasn't been updated since.

They only made the building stronger, they didn't add anything electrical. Which is probably something I should get fixed.

I sat down and leaned against the wall parallel to the door, a perplexed look on my face.

My mind was left without any ideas as to why there would be a door that was locked, with supposedly no reason to be there.

Maybe the original owner needed a storage closet for important items and thats why it was locked..but that doesn't make much sense.

I got up and looked through every room for a second time, looking in every nook and cranny there was.

I was about to give up until I found one of the floorboards in the bathroom had come up, a shiny object being the tiniest bit visible. Good thing I checked again.

I gently lifted up the wood, careful as to not snap the fragile material. I slowly took out the object, revealing that it was a key.

I assumed it was the key to the mysterious door so I exited the bathroom and made my way to what I thought was a room.

I inserted the key into the keyhole and twisted it to the side, unlocking it. As I opened the door, I couldn't grasp what was before me. (Altered)

Behind the door wasn't a room, nor was it a storage closet. It had been a big swirl of colours, slowly pulling me in.

I suddenly pulled back, snapping out of the trance the swirling colours had put me in. I stuck a finger inside and received a scream. I pulled my hand back and slammed the door shut.

"What the hell?! What is wrong with this house!" I exclaimed, my screams being audible, yet no one seeming to notice.

It wasn't like I could see my friends in real life so there was no point in leaving to go to their house. I also don't have the money, nor the motivation to drive to a hotel and stay there.

I considered opening the door and walking through, but I'm not sure. I pull out my phone and start texting my friend.

— (Altered)

I turn off my phone and open up the door again. Before I go through I want to test something. (Altered)

"HELLO!" I shout into the colourful void. I receive no answer, as I expected. I count myself down before jumping through.

As I emerged on the other side, I looked behind me. When I looked I was shocked to see there was only a wall. I panicked, struggling to figure out how I would get back home.

It seemed like no one was home, if anyone even lived here. I frantically searched the first floor for an exit until I saw the front door. I darted over, scrambling to unlock it.

I eventually got it unlocked and I ran out, ending up in the old house again, this time it was empty. It was my home again, I was back.

I turned around again and saw the door I entered through. "What? How did I end up here if I left through the front door?" I questioned.

I sat down, leaning against the wall, just like before. I tried to remember my surroundings, recalling the fact that it looked exactly like my house, except newer.

I could see the beautiful afternoon light shining through much easier than when I'm here. There was actual furniture; soft, cushy furniture. (Altered)

Shiny tables, stable chairs, perfect windows with no cracks to be seen. It looked so different from my house, except for the fact that the layout had been the same.

I glance at the open door again, realizing that I should probably close it. I get back up and close the door, leaving it unlocked. I had planned on visiting the place again the next day.

I exit the house and head to my car, unlocking the doors. I pull out a sleeping bag and bring it inside, locking my car doors again. (Altered)

I lay the sleeping bag on the floor, looking out the window. It's getting dark now. I slide into the sleeping bag, struggling to fall asleep.

I look up at ceiling, contemplating life and whether it was a good decision to move in here. I thought to myself more and more.

I feel myself falling asleep. Before I could shut my eyes, I pull out my phone, opening up the texting app. (Altered)

Dream: Mr. Content Man

goodnight dream👌👌

Mr. Content Man: Goodnight gogs 👍👍
(Altered) —

I shut off my phone and shut my eyes, falling asleep. Finally, resting after all that.
