Chapter - 1
Rain pattered on the window pane as he watched each droplet drip. The sky was grey and everything was wet and gloomy. Much like how he felt at the moment.
He stared out the window, watching the rain shower down as he replayed the earlier incident in his mind over and over again. And each time, he felt his heart shatter into a million little pieces. He'd booked the night train, so he could be alone with his thoughts for a while, while the other passengers slept. But now, he feels the bustling crowds were much better than these silent sleepers.
He fiddled with the diamond ring in his hand, which should've been on hers. He didn't know what went wrong; he was sure that everything was going better than alright between them. One second, it was perfect and then, it was like a broken picture frame.
He kept on staring outside, trying to pick up the pieces of his heart, trying to regain his composure, trying to come up with an excuse. The rain had begun to slow down and the train was almost nearing the station.
He didn't know if he could face his family like this. It was his fault that he got too excited and told his family that they'd be there together. And this time , they'd tie the knot. He was stupid, an absolute jerk.
Why didn't he ever think about how she felt? Why didn't he ever think about what she would say? He assumed that she'd say yes and got his hopes high.
Now, look at him. Disappointment. That's all he's feeling.
The train came to a halt at the station and he picked up his bag and hurried out the door, eager to get out of the painstaking silence that had engulfed him, leaving his thoughts to run wild. And those weren't pleasing thoughts. Just the ones that hurt him extremely.
He got out of the train, walked across the station and caught a cab. Telling the driver his address, he sat in the backseat, the silence blanketing his surroundings once more.
He stared out the window again, watching the sky turn pink at the horizon. The sun was slowly rising, the rain long gone. He felt a warmth rush over him, looking at the beautiful scenery ahead of him. But his heart hurt, nonetheless, and he never knew if he could ever feel alright again. If he could ever forget her and move on with his life. Or if he could feel whole again.
