Book of Destiny

The Book of Destiny. The only book without an author. The only book that writes itself. That writes who's fate is tied with who. The sacred book of the Gifted. What their entire culture is built around. No one knows its origins. Its always been a constant in the timeline. And tonight all the elders were gathered around it for the arrival of the next generations pairings.

Every 30 years, on the 365th day, the book's pages would flip to empty sheets all on its own, and the pairings for the next 30 years would appear in neat handwriting. Pairings were the identities of each child to be born in this generation, and each of their soulmates. If this were all that occured each time, there would be no need to watch and make a ceremony out of it. But in these pages the identities of the Gifted could be found. The children born with special abilities. And the people who would grow up being part of the gifted community, called the Phenomenons. People with extraordinary powers or abilities, believed to be called to a higher purpose by the Book of Destiny. Chosen to lead and protect, and to live up to the standard of greatness.

But about every three generations, every 90 years, new Alphas are chosen. The two people born who are meant to lead, and chosen by the book to lead all those who are gifted until they eventually die and new alphas are chosen. Their stories are tied to each other, and to create order and prevent chaos from breaking loose when they try to rule their people, two things were applied to the Alphas that set them apart from all the rest of the Phenomenons. They were the strongest out of all who were gifted, and they were only able to reach their max strength and potential if both of them were close to each other and fighting side by side.

The elders were all circled around the Book of Destiny which was already glowing, hovering a few inches above its pedestal. The pages were flipping with a pen writing things down on each one by itself, faster then the elder's eyes could keep up with. When it was finally over, and the wind that had filled the room died down, the glowing faded, and the book was back to laying open on the pedestal, the head elders loomed over it, and turned directly to the page that mattered most. The names of the two Alphas that would now rule the people.

But the moment the head elders read the writing on the page, their expressions completely changed. Their faces first shown of something like fear, confusion, but then anger. Then after exchanging glances their expressions went blank. They snapped the Book of Destiny shut. Something everyone else in the room had never seen done before. No one just closes or opens the Book of Destiny. It does it on its own. To disrespect it like would be the highest of high crimes.  But the lower elders and leaders in the room never got a chance to say a word about it. In fact, none of them ever said another word again.
