[A/N: For the sake of this story since it is based in New Zealand, lets just pretend that New Zealand is a small little island that knows absolutely nothing about X Factor and is completely isolated from the media...so in other words, no-one in this story knows about Emblem 3....yet ;)]
Ariana’s POV:
“ARIIII OHMIGAWD okay there’s this new guy in school and holy jesus he is the most perfect human being ever! Like I can’t even…I don’t even know where to begin…but since I’m with Ashton I can’t fangirl over him...but I was thinking, and even though I haven’t seen you guys together yet I know you would be so freaking cute like legit!!! You are officially my new OTP!!!” Naomi gushed, stopping to take a deep breath, attempting to calm herself down.
“You have got to be kidding me Nay, I swear you pair me up with EVERY single new guy that comes to this damn school. I can find my own boyfriend…” I huffed, pretending not to notice Ashton coming up behind her. He enclosed his hands around her eyes and whispered something in her ear.
She immediately started grinning like an idiot and blushing. Ugh, couples. They always made me feel so lonely…was there something wrong with me that meant I couldn’t get myself a boyfriend? I mean sure I was a 24/7 fangirl, but was that such a turn off for boys that it meant they couldn’t even consider dating me?
I looked away, my eyes landing on my food awkwardly. I was happy for Naomi, I honestly was. Ashton was one of my best friends and he was the perfect guy for her, but I couldn’t help but wish that I was in her shoes.
“What’s up my little Ari-anator?” Ashton cooed, jumping eagerly on the seat next to me and wrapping his arms around my waist like the hyper boy he was.
“What’s got you in such a good mood?” I scowled, biting down on my sandwich that literally tasted like nothing. I sighed and shoved it back in my bag, disappointed by yet another bland sandwich.
“Well, I just got an E on my English report” he exclaimed chirpily. I raised my eyebrows in surprise. Not because he was bad at English or anything, but because he had Mrs Lakewater…also known as the witch.
(A/N: Since this story is based in New Zealand I am using the NZ grading system…. E=Excellence, M=Merit, A=Achieved, NA= Not Achieved. Order is from best to worst :) It isn’t too hard to understand, so hopefully you guys will get what I’m talking about in the future!)
“No way?! That must be her first excellence EVER. Congrats Ashy, you have officially converted the witch to the good side” I chuckled and ruffled his hair jokingly.
“Why thank you” he mock-bowed. “ I have to go now though, Mr Frank wants me to show this new kid around…should be interesting considering all the girls are going mental over him already!” he sighed and got up out of his seat. Naomi pouted and he was quick enough to swoop in and give her a peck on the cheek.
She grinned and watched him walk off into the distance. This girl had fallen hard.

Music class was going to be a bore as usual. Mr Carell apparently had a new assignment for us and it was a partner thing. Woop de do. I literally had no one in this class.
Let me tell you about my stupid music class, basically it was divided into two parts…the music nerds that didn’t socialise unless it was absolutely necessary, or the people who didn’t give a fuck about anything and spent this class either making out with each other in the corner, or just being complete douchebags throughout.
Then there was me. The girl in the middle. I absolutely loved music, it was basically my life but I wasn’t a music nerd in anyway. The only thing I could do was sing, reading music did NOT come naturally to me and studying was something that was in no way my first priority.
Sure I got good grades in other classes but I mean come on…its MUSIC class, this is meant to be something you are passionate about, not something you spend hours studying for.
I sighed and wandered over to my seat, finding that it was occupied by someone.
“You do realise that’s my seat right?” I questioned from behind them. The guy jumped ever so slightly and turned around, his blue-green eyes staring into my soul. Well that’s what it felt like anyway. “Ohhh so YOU’RE the new guy…that’s awkward, um anyway that’s still my seat. Mr Carell is really picky with where we sit…” I explained. He nodded his head, still not saying a word as he got up from my chair and just kind of hovered around, not knowing where he should sit now.
“Just sit there, it’s just a spare seat…” I pointed at the chair next to me and he smiled greatfully, finally about to speak when Mr Carell came in, and everyone’s heads turned to watch him. We all knew the assignment would be coming our way today…this should be interesting.
“So class, I hoped you remembered that you would be getting your assignments today”
“Yes yes now get to the damn point…” I muttered irritably. This class gets me annoyed, what can I say? The new boy chuckled softly next to me, not even bothering to look my way as I made the comment. I smiled triumphantly to myself, proud that someone even bothered to notice me for once.
“Like I said before, you are going to need to partner up for this one because as of today you will be writing a song together. In a month or so you will be presenting your song to the class and yes, it will be a live performance unless you decide to do it all on garage band” the class immediately groaned in unison, except for mister perky new boy, all he did was grin like an idiot.
I mean really, who wants to perform in front of a whole class of people that you couldn’t care less about? Not to mention I was going to be partnered up with some loser like me who didn’t have any friends in this class.
“The only limitations to your song are that there be no swearing, no rude content and of course it can’t be copyrighted! Partner up everybody!” Mr Carell announced, causing another groan to escape my lips. I hated this awkward moment where I was left by myself with everyone else partnering up in seconds.
I looked over at the new boy who was in exactly the same situation as me, he just shrunk back not knowing what to do next. Even though I was in the same position I felt sorry for the boy, it was his first day and he’d probably been going through this all day. Oh what the heck, maybe I could get to know the guy for Naomi’s sake.
“Do you want to be my partner?” We asked each other simultaneously. We both immediately cracked up laughing.
“Great minds think alike!” I commented and grinned at him. “I’m Ariana by the way, but most people call me Ari…well most people being the limited amount of people that I actually talk to…wait why am I telling you this? I probably seem really awkward right now…I promise you I’m not that awkward I just appear awkward and I realise that I have said awkward like a billion times right now but I can’t help it because well I guess I really am awkward…” I babbled, immediately cringing, not wanting to see his judgemental stares.
“You think you’re awkward? Well…we’re going to get along well then. My names Keaton…the most awkward person that you will ever meet!” he chuckled and stuck out his hand for me to shake.
