Ari’s POV:
After hyperventilating for what seemed like hours Keaton had finally managed to calm me down enough so that I could text Calum back. As soon as I had screamed Drew gapped it straight away, mumbling something about a headache but to me it just looked like he was scared….oops?
“Are you sure he’s not going to think I’m a freak?” I whispered, chewing on my nails nervously. Keaton rolled his eyes, thoroughly amused by the situation at hand.
“No. Now send the text before I do!” He chuckled, reaching for the phone tauntingly. I whipped it out of his grip and quickly pressed down on the “send” button. I gulped, watching as my screen flashed with the symbol that told me it had been sent.
“What now?”
“We do our assignment?” I froze, my eyes widening as realisation dawned on me.
“OH MY GOSH! I’M SO SORRY KEATON! All this time I’ve been freaking out about something as stupid as this when we’re meant to have been doing our assignment…I just, aw man I’m so sorry!!” I cried. He chuckled, shrugging as if it didn’t really bother him. He was such a good guy.
“So this song…what do you want to write about?” He asked, brushing his hair away from his eyes in a way that made me gulp. Could he not look attractive for like 2 seconds? That would make my life much easier.
“Um…friendship?” I mumbled, feeling like an idiot. I was here for school purposes only, we hardly knew each other and just nope. I could not in any way think of him as anything other than a friend, nope. Nothing more.
“True friends are few and far between!” He sang, clutching his hand to his chest dramatically.
“Woah! Did you just come up with that on the spot?!” I gasped. He chuckled, shaking his head.
“Nah, I wrote it with the boys a while back!” He exclaimed with a small nostalgic smile on his lips.
“The boys?” I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“Drew and Wes,” he explained. I nodded my head slowly, still not comprehending what this meant. Did they just casually write a song about friendship? Aw cute.
“Do you guys write together often?”
“Not anymore,” he mumbled. I frowned about to ask him why he was suddenly going so quiet but he shook it off and a smile formed on his lips. “So what kind of music are you into?” It took me a moment to ponder this thought. My music taste couldn’t really be narrowed down to a specific genre, so when I said my answer I said it in a shrugging sort of manner.
“Anything where the artist can actually sing!” I exclaimed. He chuckled at my answer.
“That’s a good point. Any particular artists you’re into?”
“Stan Walker all the way!” I whooped. He raised an eyebrow, having no clue who he was. “You have not lived until you have heard the beauty that is Stan Walker’s voice!” I gushed, already whipping out my iPod to show him.
“I reckon as soon as you hear Wes’ voice you won’t be thinking that!” Keaton stated confidently. I rolled my eyes, scrolling through my iPod to find one of Stan’s songs.
“Not meaning to sound rude, but dude you haven’t heard Stan Walker’s voice! I literally cannot describe how flawless it is…you just…okay, listen to this!” I clicked play and soon enough music was filling the room.
I studied Keaton’s reaction, watching his every move as the song went on. He kept a blank face throughout the song, not wanting to give away any hints as to whether he liked it or not. Partially through the song he turned his gaze up to meet mine. It was like we were having a mini stare down and in a way it felt strangely normal. As soon as the song had finished a grin broke out on his lips.
