Regulus had always been scared of thunderstorms, but the memories of his mother made them worse. He had escaped his mother but not the memories. The memories almost seemed worse than the actual thing.
The thunder outside was only getting louder as the rain started pouring harder. He covered his ears praying to Merlin it would just stop already.
One particularly loud clap of thunder was what made Regulus tear up. He wondered if anyone else in the house was awake.
There was no way he would go to any of them for comfort. No. That would make is seem like he was a child. And he was no child. He was just scared of the thunder booming outside.
"Merlin I'm so pathetic" he whispered to himself
BOOM
Another clap of thunder hit, making Regulus whimper.
He was starting to rethink his decision about not getting help. He was on the brink of a panic attack and if he didn't get help be was sure he would be hyperventilating in the next 10 minutes.
Sirius was a no go, as he would never hear the end of it. And he wasn't too comfortable around James' parents yet. Sure, James would pick in him a little bit. But he wouldn't tell Sirius if Reg asked him to.
BOOM
Regulus stood up and shakily walked over to his door slowly turning the doorknob and opening the door, careful not to creak the floorboards too much so he doesn't wake anyone up.
He walked down the hall, and saw that James' light was on still?
"Weird" Regulus whispered with a sniff
He walked over to James' door and put his fist up about to knock but then stopped.
Was this a good idea? Or was he just being needy?
No. It was for a good reason. He's scared and needs comfort or he'll have a panic attack.
Knock knock knock
After about 10 seconds, Regulus saw the door handle move and shortly after the door was open revealing James, with his fluffy jet black hair and slightly crooked glasses.
"What do you need baby black?" James asked, crossing his arms and leaning on the door frame
Regulus didn't say anything, he just walked forward and wrapped his arms around the taller boy.
James froze for a second before wrapping his arms around Regulus too.
"Hey what's wrong?" James asked comfortingly
Regulus still didn't say anything, he just tightened his grip on James. James sighed before pulling Regulus inside and closing the door.
Regulus let go of James and sat down in his bed looking at his feet almost like he's ashamed. So James sat in front of Regulus on the floor and tilted his head up. But Regulus pushed James' hand away and looked anywhere but James' eyes.
"Please tell me what's going on?" James begged
Regulus shook his head.
"It's embarrassing. And pathetic" he whispered finally looking at James
"If it's something your crying over, it can't be that embarrassing or pathetic Reg. Just tell me" James said, sitting next to Regulus on the bed
Regulus mumbled something incoherent.
"What was that?" James asked
"I'm scared on the thunder, ok?" Regulus said slightly frustrated. Not with James but with himself. It sounded so silly when he says it out loud. He's a 14 almost 15 year old who's scared of the thunder
