He leaned in, lightly twirling my hair between his fingers.

"Alex"

He pulled back, jumping down from the ledge. He looked down and wrung his hands.

"Sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean..."

"Alex"

He tentatively looked up into my eyes. I shivered. A flash of green, made sharp by the tint of his glasses.

"Alex"

And we were kissing. His hands on my back, my neck. His mouth pressing softly against mine. His warmth, his familiarity. The world blurred around us.

His name was being whispered. By the trees, the waves, the wind. They sung his name until it caught in my eyes.

We'd stopped kissing, and we were hugging tightly, oh so tightly. My breath was his breath. My heart was his heart.

And finally, I felt safe.
