When Sirius pulled back, all Remus saw was the intense glare from the green eyed redhead, who still had Sirius' shirt clutched in her hand. He tried to look away, but when his eyes flicked to the grey ones across from him, it took all of the self control in his body to push down the smile he so badly wanted to show—the smile that would inevitably say 'I'm the one that did that! I'm the one that just made Sirius Black flushed and out of breath!' He didn't because as soon as the thought filled his mind, the one that crashed to the forefront just a second later was one of Fabian and how his boyfriend was at his side and had witnessed the entire thing.
He barely waited for the bottle to stop on Dorcas before he silently rose and pulled Fabian to his feet. They soundlessly crossed the room, the portrait slamming close behind them, and as soon as they entered the corridor, Fabian pulled his hand away. They walked in silence, clearly neither of them were too eager for the conversation.
Remus brought a hand through his hair in frustration. How could he have been so stupid? Not only was Sirius his best friend and things would certainly change after they just snogged in front of nearly twenty people, but his boyfriend was right. there.
He continued to follow Fabian until they somehow reached the Astronomy Tower. They sat beside each other in silence, their feet dangling from the edge as they stared out into the distance. Just as he took a deep breath, Fabian nudged him and when Remus looked down, he saw a cigarette in the older boy's hand.
As he deeply inhaled, Fabian took the moment to finally break the silence.
"I'm not mad."
"What?" Remus' eyes widened and for the first time in years, he coughed on the smoke he exhaled. Fabian just smiled at Remus' efforts to contain his cough before continuing.
"I'm not mad," Fabian repeated as he reached over and grabbed the cigarette, this time turning to face Remus as he leaned his back against the wall. He took a long drag before speaking again. "I know I should be, but I'm not. I mean, how could I be when nearly everyone in this bloody place would kill to snog Sirius fucking Black—"
"Fabian!"
"You know it's true, and I never said I wasn't one of 'em!" He grinned as he held his hands up. He took a drag before passing it back to Remus, the grin fading when he exhaled, but it fell to a small, yet sad, smile. "Anyway, I know you and him have a different type of relationship than you and the others—Remus, 'm not blind. I've seen the way you two look at each other."
He determinedly said the last part when Remus tried to open his mouth to cut him off, resulting in a blush to form on Remus' face. Remus looked away from Fabian and fiddled with the still burning cigarette in his hand. He took a long drag before passing it back.
"So you're not mad." Remus said, but this time it was more of a statement and less of a question.
"Nope." Fabian shook his head, popping the 'P'. "Bit embarrassed 'bout how it happened in front of everyone, but not the slightest bit mad."
Remus slowly nodded and felt his shoulders relax for the first time since they left the common room. He closed his eyes and they silently passed the cigarette back and forth to each other until Fabian rubbed it on the floor to set it out before flicking it from the top of the tower. Remus watched as the cigarette butt fell, and he strained his eyes to follow it, but eventually it became enveloped by the darkness below.
"G'night Remus." Fabian said, though he didn't make an effort to stand. Remus knew better than to point it out and he took it as a sign for him to leave. He pulled himself to his feet, his joints cracking as he rose, and began to walk to the door.
