[unedited]To say I'm exhausted would be putting it lightly.
The ferry from Mallorca to Barcelona was a six hour trip. The flight from Barcelona to Budapest was another two and a half hours.
And when we finally landed, I was less than grateful to learn that the safe house was not in Budapest, but in fact another two hour car ride away in Debrecen.
All of this supplemented with not an ounce of alcohol. Easton tries his best to keep me sane, but he already know better than to try to talk to me too much.
It's pitch black outside when we finally reach the safe house. It looks rather unassuming, like a bunker in a loading dock, but I guess that's a good thing.
We head up to the place and Claude siphons through a series of security measures; scanners, codes, passwords and voice activation, until finally the metal door sounds with a deep click.
Claude and Easton both push the heavy door and it gives way into the dark room, but lights turn on automatically to brighten the space.
The door closes silently behind us, despite its weight, and a quiet beeping alerts us that it's completely locked once again.
The first thing I notice about the space is the windows. Or rather lack thereof. The only visual to the outside world is the security camera, which the feed from plays on the flatscreen on the wall. Other than that, it looks like a regular apartment. The living room area is furnished with couches, a coffee table and a rug. Lamps keep the closed area brightly lit.
There's a kitchenette off to the side and another hallway that probably leads to bedrooms and bathrooms.
Without a word, I march myself and my stuff down that hall and open the first door that greets me. I'm relieved to find a bedroom that I don't hesitate to claim. I kick of my shoes and flip down onto the bed.
I don't even realize I've fallen asleep until I startle awake at a clanging sound. I check the time. It's almost three am.
My body forces itself up, and I start rubbing my eyes as they adjust to the darkness, with the time sensitive lights having since turned off.
Sneaking quietly out of the room, I travel back down the hall and peer around the corner at the site of the sound.
My heart skips a little when I notice someone standing there, but then I remember I'm not alone.
