Nafs

Scarier than sins
More evil than Satan
Is a person's nafs
His inner devil

It blackens the heart
Discards goodness and drowns you in the dark
Inspite of having taqwa, you sin then despair
It sucks you alive, makes you unable to repair

The intention to sin swims in
You know Allah is watching but you let the irresistible desire in
In the haraam lusting, it's your soul that's rusting
The thought of Allah halts you but you dive right in

As you sin, a flashback plays
Of you on your knees begging Allah to save you from going astray
A lump forms, in your throat it stays
'What am I doing?' You falter and say

The curtains of the nafs demise
And the darkness subsides
With tears in your eyes
You curl and cry

'Why did I do it?'
'And Allah was by my side!'
'Stopping me from the hideous crime!'
'Yet I did it, in all consciousness of mine!"

That's when Satan steps in
'That's right my child, what you did is unforgivable, a huge crime.'
'No mercy will come after repeating the sin that many times.'
'The darkness calls you now, there's no light.'

Wallowing and despair
No air any where
No exit from the dark, no repair
Undeserving of forgiveness, shameful of prayer

Ashamed of Allah,
Recalling Prophet's haya
Satan calls you a hopeless creature
And you can't even beg to differ

Blank and null, path all blurred
Little or no hope, lights all dulled
Ain't no pebbles you left like Hansel
Ain't no light at the end of the tunnel

You turn to Allah, who's rope you had released
Drowning in the sea, you give Him your plea
'O Allah, I was wide awake, I'm direlect, I led myself astray!'
'O Allah, forgive me, I have no other sanctuary.'

And by God if drowned in sins it is Allah you call
Then you're the sinner better than all
So call on Allah when all hope is lost
When there's no way back, cry to Allah to have you back

"Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning do not despair of the mercy of Allah, Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."
