It was a Tuesday. The sky was partially cloudy but still bright and blue as people went about their day on the ground below. Spirit stood on the roof of their apartment building, gazing down at the cars speeding down below them. They didn't have much to do that morning, so they were simply enjoying the view, before hearing the door to the building open. They didn't turn though, hearing the footsteps slowly approach to stand next to them.
"Why is it that you're always up here? I don't get it." Kiran said, looking down to see what it was that had Spirit's attention.
"Yeah I don't expect an idiot like you to understand. But I worry. Not your fault you've got a small brain." Spirit said, patting them on the back with a chuckle.
"Wow, this early and you're already insulting me." Kiran said, rolling his eyes as the two of them headed back inside. "So you gotta work today?"
"Eh, I wanna check out a couple spots for some photo shoots, but nothin' besides that really." Spirit said as they headed down the stairs and walked back to Spirit's apartment. It opened the door, sighing when it saw its dad making the two of them some breakfast.
"Dad, why are you up cooking? You should be getting rest, remember?" Spirit said with a sigh, walking over to gently nudge their dad away.
"Well I was feeling a bit better, so I thought I'd make breakfast as a thank you for letting me stay." The older man's said with a chuckle, watching as Spirit finished up breakfast for him.
The three of them sat down for a quick breakfast, before Spirit headed out, taking a bus to the edge of the large city. It could only take it so far, but Spirit had no problem walking the rest of the way. It was at the edge of the city, where the view of the coast and sea was blocked by several old warehouses. They had been used as science labs or something of the sort a while back, but had been abandoned for several years now.
The only time the place was visited was by the homeless, or teenagers looking to cause trouble. But, Spirit wasn't there for either. It took a while, but it climbed up onto one of the warehouses, smiling as it gazed at the city. The sunlight filtering through the partially cloudy sky reflected beautifully off of the tall skyscrapers, just waiting for a master photographer to take its picture.
Spirit readied its camera, pointing it at the city, finding the perfect angle, before it noticed something odd. There was the feeling of something moving along Spirit's arm underneath their jacket. They set down the camera and pulled the sleeve back, discovering a spider crawling along its forearm.
They grimaced, raising their hand to swat at it, before feeling a piercing feeling as the spider bit into the muscle there.
"Mother fucker." Spirit grumbled, slamming their hand down on the bug, before wiping it away. There were tiny marks from where the skin had been broken, but it paid no mind, lifting its camera and taking a few photos, and then getting ready to head home. They didn't give that spider bite a second thought as they went back home, but they would soon regret not paying it any attention.
