"What the hell are those?""It's Muggle fashion, James," Lily sniffs, adjusting the waistband of Theresa's brand-new trousers. "You wouldn't understand."
Theresa Potter practically contorts herself trying to twist around to look at her backside, eyeing herself up in the full length mirror. "I like them," She announces to Lily. "They make my arse look fantastic."
Lily nods in agreement, and they both pay no mind when James starts to splutter. They're not even all that sure why he's in the bedroom with them, but apparently Lily announcing that she had a present for his little sister before she headed off for her last year at Hogwarts was too much for the nosey git to handle.
"You can't be planning to wear them in public." James continues, regardless of the fact that both girls are very clearly not listening to him. "Teddy! What about your robes? Don't you think- I mean, shouldn't you wear proper clothes?"
This is such a stupid and typically James thing to say that it goes largely ignored for a solid minute, until Lily apparently gets too irritated to let it go uncommented on and whirls her head around so dramatically that her long hair flies around like a whip. "You didn't seem to mind when I wore a pair identical to them last weekend. You said that they were the nicest trousers you'd ever seen!"
Apparently the sight of Lily's hair glinting in the morning sun streaming through the window is enough to strike James momentarily dumb, because it takes a few seconds before he manages to gather himself enough to reply. "Wh- That's different! They were on you!" Both Theresa and Lily look at him sharply, as though daring him to continue, and he falters for a second before ploughing on regardless. "There's a difference between my girlfriend wearing a pair of trousers like that and my little baby sister wearing them! It's weird!"
"They're only trousers, James, get over yourself!"
"Teddy, you can't be bringing them to Hogwarts. You're a Prefect!" James, for once, ignores Lily, leaning around her so that he can stare imploringly at his sister.
"I am," Teddy says simply, finally turning away from the mirror and shutting her trunk firmly. "I'm wearing them on the train."
James, drama queen that he is, begins to choke on air. "The train!" He gasps. "Teddy-"
"Ignore him," Lily speaks loudly in order to be heard over James' dramatics, "He's just jealous that you have a far nicer bum than he has."
The melodramatic gasping cuts off instantly as James gazes at Lily with a distinctly wounded expression. "Lilyflower, you don't mean that."
A knock sounds at Teddy's bedroom door (and thank Merlin for that, because she really doesn't fancy discussing her arse versus James' with the mediator being her brother's girlfriend), and Sirius Black pokes his head in. His dark curls are artfully mussed, and his grey eyes shine with poorly concealed amusement as his gaze lands on James, who still looks a little hurt.
