“Hi, I’m a unicorn from space that majestically came to earth, so now you
have to worship me, I will take your Criminal Minds on Netflix” That’s what I
said to Bri to make her feel better. Today, she just had a really bad day with her folks. This usually happens, but it hit her harder. We've been best friends since Pre-K, and I really don't like to see her sad, it makes me have knots in my stomach. I can't bear the thought to see her sad. It hurts me on the inside as it does in the out.
Bri is the most loving person you'll ever meet, and she is very athletic when it comes to sports, and is very competitive, especially in baseball and archery.
She has very sharp aim. She would of chosen art class, but she really sucks at drawing. She’s also in track, Every time she’s running for track her long, dark ombre hair, is always flowing in the wind. I could always smell her shampoo, coconut.
When she looks at me with those hazel eyes she can make me believe I’m in heaven.
She would always be there for me, so I’m going to be there for her. If her parents were to kick her out, I would take her to my house. My folks really like her; they say she is “good influence” for me, and by that they meant she could help me with my training, so I doubt they would mind.
I know this may sound crazy but my family is in a gang. Like the whole family, everyone. I mean, even my baby cousin is in the gang. She doesn't know much yet, but shes getting there.
When I first brought Bri to my house my family thought we were dating, but we just let it roll off our backs and let them think that. Later they found out we weren't, but they were okay with it.
My folks just want me to date someone like her; she’s just the most perfect person with her high grades, perfect smile that seems to make the whole world light up with joy, and her perfect personality.
She can be very nice at times but very rude in other times, but she only does that when it’s necessary, if bullies are bothering her, she can break them down until there’s nothing left. She makes them see through the other side, and helps to change them to be a better person, she might not be popular, but mostly everyone comes to her for advice.
Oh my Gawd, and her laugh, her laugh is so perfect, it just makes you want to laugh with her. When she laughs it can make the whole world seem better. Oh my Gawd, I think about her every moment, every day of my life.
“Thanks” She half- heartedly laughed. It was good to see her smile.
“You know, it’s going to be okay.” I told her.
“Yeah, maybe”
“What’s wrong?” I ask her
She flinched at that question and seemed to try to ignore it
“I’m hungry” She replied.
“But you just went through a bad day!”
“I know but it helps me forget” She seemed sincere.
“So you’re a stress eater?”
“No, I’m just hungry, I haven't eaten all day. My parents haven't fed me in three days. They’ve been giving the food to my sister, saying ‘they don’t have enough’.” She answered. Why didn’t she tell me this before?
“So their starving you?” I question.
“No!!! They just...” She trailed off, looking for an excuse.
“Stop protecting your parents, what they’re doing to you is wrong, In case you didn’t know, its called child abuse!!” I raised my voice.
She started crying and then started sobbing uncontrollably. ‘I have to take her away from this place’ I thought.
“Um, no please, don't cry, I'm not mad at you just at your parents, you know. If it makes you feel better, we’ll go to McDonalds, and I’ll buy you a burger or two.”
“Okay.” She murmured.
We walked through the shortest route we could take, a long, narrow path that led to an alleyway and straight into the city. I know it may seem like a badidea, like if something bad is going to happen, but no.
I happen to know the people so they won't do anything to me. Well, I know most of them; one of them is my brother, so I'm not actually scared of walking there. They can't do anything to Me, if they do then I'll fight them.
Yeah I can fight but I used it only when necessary. Last time I fought, it was with this guy who thought that I stole his crack. I tried telling him to back off, that I didn’t steal it, but he didn’t care. He was skinny, like a stick, it was probably because he was a hobo junkie, but that didn’t stop him. He was easy to take down.
Anyways, I took her to McDonalds, and we had an awkward silence. To make up for it I just tried to apologize.
"I'm sorry Bri, I didn't mean to, umm never mind" I said feeling frustrated for not finding a way to break the silence.
"So what are you doing here, in the neighborhood?"
She asked through a mouth full of food. I forgot how much of a tomboy she could act sometimes.
"Why?" I asked grinning knowing the answer to the question already.
"You know why” She replied with a serious face.
Her folks don't like me. They think I'm bad influence, because of what I did to their front lawn. Yeah, its not my best work, but they got the point.
We were eleven, I think, when it happened. We were playing outside having a little fun, but I was a curious child. I had fire crackers in my pockets and I wanted to light them up. Bri told me not to, but I didn't listen.
I lit them up and threw them in her front lawn right on top of the dry grass.
The firecracker blew up and the grass caught on fire. It took about an hour tocool down the fire but ever since her parents banned me from her house saying I was 'bad influence'.
"I came to see you" I replied, "I haven't seen you in a while"
It was true, we were in the middle of Spring Break, and I was bored.
She blushed at that and brought up a smile. I think I might have blushed too.
