Gypsy walked slowly to the camp so that Echo could keep up. It was nice watching a child enjoy their surroundings rather than train for a war to come. She wasn't sure how long that would last. Echo was needed in the war for more than just a face to use for the rebellion. She had to eventually overthrow her mother. That was the law. Of course she was way too small to do that now. She barely made it to Gypsies chest and Gypsy was one of the smallest members for her species. Both of her parents were some of the largest examples of their kind. She would probably become bigger than her mother.
Echo froze and looked around wildly.
"What's wrong little one?"
"I hear a voice.... Only one but it's coming this way"
Gypsy lifted her ears up and high as they could go. But she couldn't hear anything. The forest was completely silent which was a bad sign. Something was approaching but she couldn't hear it which means they were probably hunting them.
"Which direction are they coming from? Maybe I can signal a guard from the camp. If there is a threat than they made a mistake coming this close to camp"
Echo went to respond when a flash of white and pink leapt at Gypsy through the bushes. It didn't have a chance to reach her when Echo attacked it and pinned it down. Of course the threat wasn't an actual threat.
"Staglight? What are you doing over here on the edge of camp?" Gypsy tilted her head at the young male.
He chuckled nervously "I wanted to show off my stalking skills but this one kinda ruined it. By the way can you get off of me?"
Echo nodded and got off of him. She looked up at him after he stood up "If you want to stalk successfully then maybe you should learn how to mask your thoughts. I could hear them from a long ways away"
Staglight frowned "You can hear thoughts?"
"Most of the time. Especially when they are coming from small brained idiots who think in shouts"
"Hey!"
Gypsy rolled her eyes at the childish display in front of her " That's enough you two. Staglight, where is the commander? His daughter would like to meet her"
Staglight looked at Gypsy then back at Echo excitedly "This is the princess of souls? From what my sister had been saying she sounded a lot older. Uhm... he is currently in a meeting but he should be almost done. He is in the armor chamber. Can I come with you?"
Gypsy nodded and began walking towards the chamber. Staglight and Echo talked about childish things. Mainly when the best games were played. At one point he asked about what happened to her wings. It shocked Gypsy that she remembered something from that long ago. It wasn't a clear memory but she remembered the pain she was in and being put in a box for shipment. Why did Veridian allow that to happen? He was still at the castle when the incident occurred. Maybe he was with his son.
She quickly pushed the thought of his son away. It still hurt to think about him.
She was so deep in thought she didn't notice the dragon in front of her until she ran into him. His dark scales were hard to miss.
