After thinking about Jack nonstop all afternoon, it's now 8:15, so I decide to get going. I grab my bag, and key, and am about to head out the door when mom stops me.

"Where do you think you're going missy?" she says, hands on her hips.

"Umm.....I have a....date...yeah a date." I say. The only reason you're saying this is to get mom to let you go, nothing else.

"OK....be careful though. And how come you didn't tell me sooner, I'm your mother?" She asks suspiciously, raising her eyebrows.

"Maybe because I didn't want you asking a ton of questions, no offense mom." she laughs,

"OK be safe, I love you. Remember to keep good posture OK bug?"

"OK mom, I love you." I say, she walks back into the kitchen and I hurry out the door and onto the road with my beat up minivan blasting music toward the diner.

Once I'm there, I notice that only 2 other people are there. Probably Randy, who owns the diner, and Jack who is standing outside the doors waiting. I park and get out of the car, grabbing my bag. He smiles at me, and I smile softly back, my cheeks getting hot again.

"So, what on earth are we doing here?" I ask, cocking my head at him.

"Follow me," he says secretively. He slips his hand into mine, and my stomach does a somersault. He begins pulling me along with him, around the side of the diner to a staircase leading to the roof. I hesitate,

"Come on," he insists.

"This is kind of suspicious, for all I know, you could be an ax murderer." I say, crossing my arms over my chest. He leans in,

"I guess you're just going to have to trust me." He whispers into my ear, making me tingle.

We both walk up the steps to the roof, and what I see amazes me. There are thousands of stringed lights, and cushions on the concrete roof. It looks like a place from the movies.

"What do you think?" he says walking over to cushions and sitting down, I follow him.

"It's beautiful. Ok, maybe I do like surprises." I say, both of us laughing. I sit down next to him and he looks at me with a gleam in his eyes.

"I come here to hang out, you know, water plants and stuff," he says jokingly. I giggle softly. We stare out into the town, lights flashing from stoplights and shops. I look over at him and we make eye contact.

"Your eyes are very intimidating." he says, and I look away from him.

"I've been told that a lot." I say. He frowns,

"I didn't mean it in a bad way," he continues,

"I just meant you have pretty eyes." I look up at him again and my cheeks go red again, he starts twisting his shirt.

" Jack, why do you keep inviting me to do stuff with you?" I ask calmly,

"I have already told you, because we work together and I wanted to get to know yo-"

"No for real." I say aggressively. Part of me feels bad, but ever since my dad left, I have had major trust issues.

"For some reason every time I see you, my stomach goes all weird, and I have this weird feeling." He says nervously. I suddenly get very uncomfortable. We are dangerously close, and the smell of his minty skin fills my nose, making me weary. I stare at his rippled biceps and gulp.

"Umm......I have to go..." I say, standing up, grabbing my bag, and running away from him,

"Wait North, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, " Jack yells, quickly standing up,
