Hey ya'll, so I'm working through a counselling program right now and one of the first things they ask you to do is write a letter to yourself to help keep you motivated. I thought this was brilliant and wanted to share the 'prompt' and my own letter with anyone who thinks this is a good idea and/or wants to try it themselves. Let me know what you think of the idea. (No editing involved from what I wrote)
Building Motivation to Change
Imagine it is 5 or 10 years in the future. You have made important changes in your life and things are much better. Write yourself an encouraging letter about why you need to make changes now.

Dear Hidden3Identity,
It's 2026, and you are now 28 years old. It took a lot of hard work but we've finished our hairdressing degree, and have a steady job at a salon where we get to meet lots of different people on different walks of life. We haven't given up on music though, I still work on song covers in my spare time. I even get to help work on other people's tracks.
I know life is hard, but look how far we've come because we didn't give up. I don't hide from my family anymore, in fact I can relate to them better now and tell them stories about the people I meet at work. On another note, we learned how to budget properly and stick to it. We are now debt free! It wasn't easy and took time, but the longer and harder you work at something the easier and more natural it comes to you.
I still need help every now and again, but that's normal and it's okay to need help, it's human nature to rely on each other. As you can probably guess time management was our biggest struggle, and while it still is, we are still working hard to get better. I've been at this job for more than 2 years, I'm almost never late and have gotten a lot faster with my clients.
There's so much more I want to tell you, but the biggest thing is to never give up, life gets better for us.
I love you,
Signed, Me.
