The time stamp between Dream's eyes closing shut and waking up a few hours after, felt so short, he wasn't sure if he even slept at all.
Ever since he had decided, he needed to call George's mother, he was as impatient as he's last been on his 10th birthday when he was finally getting that pet snake he wanted for ages, only this time it wasn't out of excitement but out of pure worry.

Without getting dressed or doing anything else you'd think of to be necessary, Dream was already scrolling through his contacts, pressing the one that was saved as "Ms Davidson" (George's Mother) and waited patiently as the ringing sound was echoing through his ears.

"Hello, Davidson here, to whom am I speaking?", hearing her voice made Dream completely snap out of his morning tiredness. He didn't prepare at all. How was he going to approach her?

"Hey, uhm this is Dream or Clay, George's friend, sorry if I'm bothering in some sort of way", he spoke in a clear but yet fast tone.

"Its fine honey, you're not bothering at all. How can I help you?", her voice sounded quiet and hollow, as if she just finished crying and yet it gave Dream comfort, like he wasn't just about to be exposed to absolute terror.

"Well, I was wondering if George is busy or something. I haven't heard from him in over 2 days and we usually talk everyday. I got a bit worried and thought I'd just ask you."

Now all he needed was the most simple response that would let him know his friend made it home safely.

"Oh... I'm assuming you don't know yet", Dream could hear her lips quivering over the phone and it sounded like she was trying to avoid crying.

"Know what?", seemed to be the only answer he was able to make up in the moment. All sorts of comfort from just seconds ago had been completely knocked out of him by now.

"Sweetheart, George got into a car accident about two days ago on his way back home.".

At this point she was already crying.

"Wait what. Was it bad? Is he okay? Can i talk to him?"

Tons of questions started flooding Dream's mind. He desperately needed his friend to be okay.

"It was bad", she had a hard time getting her sentence across as she kept being interrupted by a rush of tears, "he's been in a coma ever since and it's not looking very good as of right now. They don't know if he will make it."

They don't know if he'll make it?

This couldn't be real. Had the whole universe decided to play a beyond unfunny joke on Dream today?
Just two days ago they were on a call laughing into the late hours and now he might not get the chance to hear his laugh ever again? He wasn't ready to lose his friends. For gods sake, he didn't even get to hug him yet.

When the first tear drop was rolling down his cheek, he snapped out of his thoughts, listening to the distant sobs of George's mother on the other side of the phone while everything around him felt so unreal.

"Is it okay if I book the next possible flight to the UK? I don't think I'll be able to stay here any longer, it'll drive me insane eventually."

Now that everything seemed to be going downhill, he at least wanted to be able to see George.
He wanted to see his chest going up and down from his lungs, or whatever was attached to his body, keeping him alive. He wanted to hold his hand and feel his heartbeat to know he was still there and he was still holding on.

"Of course, I'm sure he would like to do the same if that was you on the hospital bed. May I ask you for a favor as well, if possible, could you inform George's closest friends? I'm sure you understand I wouldn't want this kind of phone call to be repeated over and over", she started to gather her emotions again as if she's gotten used to this already, while Dream was still an absolute mess.

"Sure, I'll let them know and thank you for informing me as well. I'm assuming it's best if I hang up for now. Hope to see you in a few days. Bye bye", a few more tears rolled down his cheeks, trying his best to hold them back.

"Bye honey, make sure you get here safely."

The call ended right after. His tears were now fully spilling out and with his vision being blurred, he couldn't quite manage to use his phone which led to the decision that he would inform everyone else once he was comfortable enough.
'Comfortable enough', what a pathetic thing to say while his friend may already be laying on his own death bed.
