Elena, Consuelo, and I hurry down the block, making sure not to bring too much attention to ourselves. The street is lined with people moving in the opposite direction of us. All of them wearing feathers, neon or ugly musty colors, and more lace than you could've thought possible. We are glanced at as we pass, nothing more. Elena's bow is snug at her side, mine in my shaky hands, and Consuelo ready to wrestle down anyone in our way.
Just up the street I spot something bright and blurry, just as I realize what it is... It is too late. A round of gun shots have been fired and I hear someone scream, a blood wrenching scream. Then, the blood appears. It is splattered on the ground between my sisters and I. I grab my bow, load, and fire. It is only seconds before I have finished all the targets, leaving them dead or soon to be dead.
"Makayla!" Elena panics, and drops her bow.
"Elena! Are you okay?!" I question and all I get back is a tremble of her lips. Her face is terrified, and more emotions bleeding through that. This is the most scared I've seen anyone.
"M-M..." Her voice quivers. She points to me, and I follow the line... The line to a bloody mess. The mess that takes place just above my hip bone.
My legs feel weak, and I fall quickly to the ground. Pain finally hitting me, knocking the breath out of me like two months back. I was climbing the fence in District Twelve when I lost my footing and fell nearly twenty feet to the cold hard ground. The breath and life nearly knocked straight out of me. I feel just like then, extreme pain, much worse than when I fell, but pain. I lay on the ground trying to catch my breath, yet it is impossible. I squirm, and my sisters try to stop me. I am in shock, and I can't calm down. Everything seems so distant right now, especially their voices. They seem to be drifting, slowly drifting away. But so is the light.
