Chapter 3

" Why? A woman can't surprise her girlfriend on the day of her graduation?"

Said this beautiful woman who is probably in her mid thirties.

Catherine was standing there clueless of what she should do next.

Jackie looked at Catherine and then at Monica. Damn. This is bad.

" Oh. uhm. I don't think you two have formally met. Monica, this is Catherine. Catherine, this is Monica."

Monica grabbed Jackie by the waist while reaching out for Catherine's hand.

" The famous Professor Stark. Nice finally getting to know you."

Catherine's eyes saw Monica's arm circling Jackie's waist. She has got to get out of here. Even at six years this is just too much. Why is she even feeling this way? Everything happened so long ago why can't she just move on?

"The pleasure's mine, Monica"

Catherine shook her hand and smiled timidly.

"Babe, your mom's calling me. I better go check what she's doing. Hurry up okay?"

Monica left the two women.

Catherine and Jackie stood there silently. They can feel all the past tension hanging in the air.

" I uhm... I better go. Mom got this dinner all planned."

Jackie uttered. She doesn't really want to go. But she has too. She's not allowed to feel like this. She has Monica for crying out loud.

" Yeah you probably should."

Answered Catherine. She felt like the weight of the world was in her chest at the moment. Apparently everything's too late.

"It was nice seeing you... Professor Stark."

Jackie, while walking away, took a pause and looked at Catherine. She knew she was going to regret this but she still did it anyway.

" Same number. 323 area code."

And with that she ran towards Monica and her mother who was talking by the car.

Catherine was still dazed with everything that had happened. This fucking rabbit hole.
