Jacob's pile of dry wood had been lit on fire by Benjamin. Vera watched in wonder as he produced fire of his fingertips, how incredibly powerful this Egyptian vampire was.

"A little pre battle bonfire, telling war stories." Jacob rubbed his hands together as he looked at the groups of vampires standing motionless "Or just standing there like freaking statues."

"Name any American battle." Garrett said as he flashed forward onto the log besides Jacob "I was there."

"Little Bighorn." Jacob said after a second

"I came this close to biting Custer." Garrett made a motion with his fingertips indicating how close he had been. "But the Indians got him first."

"Try Oleg's assault on Constantinople. He didn't win that one on his own." Kate said as she sat on Garrett's lap.

"If you're talking battles you're talking the eleven years war." An Irish vampire said, joining in on the conversation. "No one does a rebellion like the Irish."

"You lost the eleven years war." Garrett said.

"Ayy, but it was one hell of a rebellion." The Irish chuckled.

"When we ruled." Stefan started as Alec and Jane rolled their eyes at the Romanian vampire "Everything came to us, prey, diplomats, favor seekers, such was our power."

"When you ruled vampires were being massacred, thousands of humans were drained, even your own werewolves were being slaughtered by the dozen." Alec scoffed, Stefan made it seem like when the Romanians ruled the world was a better place than it was now.

Eyebrows raised as Alec spoke about the dark ages, no one else besides the Romanians were alive that long ago.

"Yes, we were honest about what we were. We never put on white hats and called ourselves saints." Vladimir sneered at Alec. They didn't agree with the number one rule of secrecy the Volturi upheld.

"But you sat still whilst the people you ruled were annihilated." Jane sneered back at Vladimir and Stefan.

"For a very long time." Stefan looked almost whimsically sad "We didn't even notice when we began to petrify."

"Perhaps the Volturi did you a favor when they burned your castles." Alec said amused

"Perhaps." Stefan said

The rest of the vampires looked between the Romanians and the witch twins, wondering if a fight were about to break out. Luckily both parties went back to standing as if they were statues.

"The red coats are coming the red coats are coming." Garret was heard by everyone as he bounced nervously on his feet when the Volturi had come into view.

With all eyes on the Volturi it was easy to see how they had managed to destroy anything they had wished to. All cloaked in obsidian cloth with crimson undertones and stitches they floated into view, with Aro, Caius, and Marcus in the front the rest of the guard fanned out in an flawless wave. They moved with grace, slow and deliberate but ready to destroy those who stood against them in the clearing.

"You know I was skeptical about it but now I'm ever so grateful for these Benedict Arnolds in our ranks." Garrett whispered to Kate who let out a lighthearted scoff.

Soon the Volturi had come to a full stop in front of them. Slowly, Aro removed his hood, causing a domino effect as the rest of his guard did the same. His eyes narrowed when he caught sight of his three missing guards in suite with the very coven he had come to destroy.
